Question Winch

Hello all, need advice as how to select proper front bumper rack to hook up a winch on my 2004 4-runner. Have not been able to find a lot of info out there on the correct match between rack and appropriate winch. Would also appreciate any info on the necessary gear to complete the hook-up. Thanks for the help.

Hello T-bird, welcome to Yotatech

If you are planning to add a winch to your 4runner, you'll either have to wait for ARB to release their ARB bumper or purchase/build your own custom front bumper.

I have a Warn M8000 and have used it 5 or 6 times with no problems with my current configuration: Demello Offroad Custom Front bumper.

Expect to see the ARB bumper to hit stores sometime this summer or fall (not guaranteed). If you can't wait, just get a custom one built.

Good luck!

Hello, I am wondering about the ARB bumper, and if it would make my gas milage go down?

I would that would be the case with the bumper being alot heavier than the stock bumper. Weight is a big factor when it comes to mpg.

Good Times: Did you add a second battery? Please elaborate on why or why not. How much does your custom bumper weigh (with and without the winch) and how does that compare to the aftermarket grills. Would any front suspension mods be necessary after the custom/ARB bumper?

Thanks.

If you remove your stock 4th gen bumper, you will notice it is all tupperware and weighs in a heafty 10# or less. Obviously adding the bumper and winch will definitely take a hit on the front as that's just pure dead weight. I don't have the exact numbers on my front bumper but I know it probably weighs in around 150-200ish? I guess when I remove it, I'll get it weighed.

I also have a second battery to help take the load off the primary when using the winch and my two lightforces so that's additional weight up there.

The grille guards are light and flimsy. I"m guessing 35-45# if that? Not sure as I've never checked one out.

My winch, front bumper, and the chunks of plastic that used to be lights, are all still lying on the garage floor. I'll need to get to work on that if it's going to hoist anyone.

I have a milemarker 9000e. should fit most aftermarket bumpers, although with the weight of a new bumper, and a winch, your front will most likely sag considerably(assuming you stick with stock susp.)

it was as easy to install as mounting it in the bumper, then running a wire to my pos. connection on my battery, and one to the neg. I am only running a battery, but I may be picking up an optima very soon.
