What tool do you use to......
....knock the tulip joint part of the CV shaft from the front Dif? (while on the trail) Toyota SST?
or, do you use a hammer, rubber mallet?
I need something to throw in my toolbox that will do this on the trail. I end up useing a MFB hammer last weekend and it scared up the CV shaft I was taking out (good thing its broke to h3LL anyway)

Jim-
how big of a pry bar? Just get it in that little gap and WACK w/ BFH?
I could see where a prybar would be good on the trail.
I found another use for marching drumsticks, knocking the CV shaft out of the hub!

The first time "I" did it, a buddy used a BFS (Big ___ screwdriver - flatblade) and smacked on it with a major hammer. The 2nd time around I actually did it myself and used a short prybar (about 15" with a 90* claw end). I wedged it in the slot and started yanking. A major hammer again came into play to get things started. You'll also need to pull the rear skidplate.
Be careful, you can get the prybar wedged in-between the joint and a thrust washer and tweak the washer. That's not horrible, but it's better to not do it.
If you've never done this, it'd be best to do it in your driveway first... learning this on the trail isn't pretty.

Actually, that WAS last weekend! 2 hours start to cleanup....not too bad. I had read the procedure just knowing that I would prolly have to do it someday. I think this past weekends rebuild of the driver side shaft (read: new boots) took longer. Of course, I didn't have to remove the tulip joint on that one.
thanks for the advice re: the pry bar - I figured there had to be a better tool than just going at it with a hammer. I'm just glad last weekend was the pass. side that broke - the driver side (with the dif hump there) would have been a PITA with just a BFH - that angle would be murder!
