Find out how much he paid for the bumper. These things are very big and weigh a ton, so I would be surprised if the company did not make up the shipping costs with the purchase price. One of the guys on this site sells them for a reasonable price and shipping is not too bad either. I paid $389 for my TJM T-17 and it was over $100 for shipping, which I still thought was a pretty good deal, mine came from 4x4 connection in VA.

Sonoran Steel can ship a TJM through Forward Air which is cheaper than most freight shipping options. I've never heard of free shipping on these bumpers.

I bought my ARB bumper from a place out west and shipping was free to a business address. I'll go dig up the info and get you a website.

I just bought one from Steve at Sonoran and paid $173 for shipping from the TJM Factory in TN to San Diego. I did look for a long time before I finally commited to buy one. I did not find any that had a free shipping deal. I found some that had cheaper shipping but the bumper was more expensive so I went with a fellow Yotatecher that I know is reliable and trust worthy. Just my 2 cents though. Went with TJM because I have heard of some issues with needing to re enforce the frame when using a winch with the ARB. TJM sounded more airbag friendly also. Could be wrong though.

Wow, does that mean he already sold out of the ones he drove back from TN himself?!

Yes, right on.
Find out and tell us where your friend got his.
Burtman Industries had a group buy a few weeks ago.
PM Jason for a shipping quote...but it won't be cheap.
I've heard you can get a post office box and get it delivered there as business address for less.

He is only stocking the T-17 not the T-15. So it had to come from Tenn. Still the best deal I found. It should be here on Fri according tothe tracking #. I cannot wait. Maybe I can sweet talk my way into a winch for Christmas.

Not sure about the PO Box qualifying for business address. I think it needs to be a loading dock type situation. Could be wrong though.

I bought my ARB bumper through wheel parts wholesalers, Picked it up in store. They matched the "shiped to my door" price in the store. (including tax)

Like everyone else, I drop ship the TJM bumpers from the warehouse in Tennessee.

The plan to stock bumpers here locally did not work out. I would have had to pay a huge amount of shipping to get them here, which would have made them even more expensive.

All of these bumpers are drop shipped, TJM and ARB via truck freight and the shipping will be expensive. Also there are so many e-merchants selling these that every time I turn around someone else is offering to sell one for a few bucks less. I set my prices very low, I absorb the PayPal-Credit Card fees, the Cahiers Check fees and the Priority Mail fees to send the funds to TJM. I am happy to sell someone a bumper and will do my best to take care of you and get you a tracking number, etc.

But in the end, I'm a Fabricator/Welder and that is where I make my money. If buy the T-17 Custom hoops we make, I am more than willing to move the T-17 through at cost. In the end it's the custom made parts/sliders/bumpers that make the money and keep the company alive.

I also don’t really participate on Yotatech anymore and I think that is a good thing for myself and the board. I have moved fully into a vendor role and as such have pulled back from posting here. If you need me, it’s best to e-mail me.

i was under the impression that ARB was airbag compatible, and TJM was not. can anyone confirm or deny this?

TJM are not airbag compatible. The ARB Sahara bar (to my knowledge) is the only airbag compatible bumper---hence on of the reasons it is so expensive

"Air Bag Compatable" is extremely vague and the air bag sensors ARE NOT in the bumper. They are on the sides of the frame rails under the engine.

So with both bumpers and even the stock bumper, the system works the same, the only thing different is the amount the bumper will crumble.

The air bag system is untouched.

The Sahara bar directions state: "Protection bar does not affect operation of the SRS aribag"

I believe this is the only bumper that makes the claim/ clarification regarding the airbag system

right, i understand that both may trigger the airbag, but i read that ARB tries to make the bumber crush at a similar rate to the stock bumper so that it will trigger the airbag at a similar impact as the stock bumper. Thats why ARB calls their bumpers airbag compatible.

TJM to my knowledge does not include this in their design. in fact the table on TJM's website has various bumper models for each different vehicle make. there is a column for "airbag" and all the toyota bumpers have a "no" in that column, while some of the other bumpers for different vehicle makes say "yes"

Wow. I may be very wrong. Sorry guys. I wonder if TJM is being careful to limit liability? I guess the idea of a bull bar crumpling like the OEM one is not what I was after with this mod anyway though. It does make solid sense that since the sensors are on the frame rails it should act nearly same.

On the Rubicon we had to use a snatch block to double the pulling power to get over a snow wall. The 8000 and 9500 winches were stalling out.

So what does this have to do with air bags? When you use a snatch block you double the winch power. My M8000 then became 16000. Now keep in mind that I have custom bumper brackets out of 3/8" cold rolled plate, welded to my front hanger. The T-17 took the 16000 pound pull.

Lets say you put you ARB crumple bracket on a 16000 pound pull. Do you think the crumples might start un-pulling? Who knows? It's never been tested.

Bottom line both bumpers and both companies make quality stuff. Pick what you like and your going to win either way.
