Slider flex

Those of you who have sliders with diamond scab plates and don't have them gussetted, I was wondering how much the sliders flex when you have one side completely off of the ground. Thanks

Not much, maybe less than quarter inch of upward flex, but I don't know what you mean by gussetted.

I have mine welded onto 1/4" thk scab plates w/ no gussets and my sliders don't even flinch when one side is completely off the ground, as in if I use the sliders to jack up one side off the ground.

Why do you ask?

I made my scab plates on some 3/16 I had laying around the garage. I haven't been able to wheel with them yet, but I put the forklift on it today at work and they seemed to give way too much. Just seemed odd to me.

By just picking mine up with a highlift they didnt seem to flex at all. When i started landing on them when out wheeling, they moved.

Mine don't move at all, but I subscribe to 4Crawler's theory and have them mounted up tight to the pinchweld.

how can you get it up tight, the pinch weld dips down in the back?

1/2" off the pinchweld (or one of my fat fingers) is where I weld mine on.

And yes, when you start whopping them on stuff, they are going to move. The idea is to give, but not fail.

I split a short section of fuel line and pressed it over the pinchweld, then used the floor jack to get it up tight. IIRC the pinchweld is straight between the wheelwells (on my second gen anyways). Occassionally, you hear it rattle a bit, but that's probably more due to my worn out body mounts.

The way mine are mounted, when the slider flexes up the load is distributed along the pinch weld.

Mine flex up about 1/4" or so, especially if you lift off of one end:

I think that is mainly due to the frame rail twisting under the load. I mount the sliders so that I can slide a finger between the inner rail and the body pinch weld.

Thanks for the info, I just found my two extra body mount brackets and I am gonna weld them on this weekend. Problem is, I wasn't thinking about them when I welded the slider legs on. I am gonna have to cut the sliders off and re-mount them a just a little bit lower.
