rear springs up front

so yesterday i decided to take the lift springs off my 89 pickup SAS. i had intentions to replace the lift spring main leaf with the longer main and second leaf from a set of rear leafs. i got them on and the only real problem i have seen so far is i have to drill thru the frame again to move the shackle mount about 4 inches back. i have about the same height. and the axle got moved forward a little. has anyone else done something similar to this. is this a waste of time. i am hoping i get some good flex out of this. let me know what yall think

yeah i am going to do a 3/4 elliptical tomorrow and then get some 63s down the road. did you guys have to move the mounts, or drill new holes in the springs.

if they are stock rear springs they will sit flat as a board! they dont allow for much up travel, and they feel unstable on the pavement. they will droop like a champ though!

its not the whole rear leaf. its just the main and second leaf on top of my lift springs. if it is still to flat i am going to cut the eyes of the main for the lift springs and put the rear main on top of that. i want to keep close to the same height.

Are they 2nd gen (47") or 3rd gen (51) leafs? cause you said you would need to redrill 4" back for the shackles. If they are 2nd gen (47") they should replace your current springs w/ no shackle relocation.....

they are 3rd gen 51s. i dont no what kind of lift springs they are. they came with the axle when i did the sas. i was wanting longer springs so i would have better angle with the shackle cause before the bottom of the shackle was point more like / than like \. but that spring is longer than i thought it would have been so now im moving the mount back some to get the shackle like \. any other ideas about the location bolt, will that be fine where its at?

What kind of springs do you have on there now? Are they stock length lift springs? How far forward is your hangar? with the 51's I for see some serious spring wrap on your front axle under load on hill climbs.

I would try to get some 47" rears and build a pack with that. Or just buy any of the big 3's front lift springs.... I have the trail gear 4"s in front and i'm pretty happy

i dont have any pics of that close up. but instead of having your rear leaf shackle bolted to a frame mount it is bolted to a leaf spring. the leaf is cut in half and bolted upside down to the bottom of the frame. i just found a pic of another truck that has it
