Has anyone here used hockey pucks for body mounts? my buddy used them on his jeep give you about an 1 lift and is cheaper than buying a kit...all he did was drill a hole in the middle of the puck then buy some grade 8 bolts and your good to go, cause my factory mounts are SHOT so I was thinking this would work great even though I really don't need anymore lift.

 

Just buy the kit from 4Crawler and be done with it.

I bought the kit AND the poly body mounts for cheap, and couldn't be happier.

yeah...they work... but for how long...who knows. When they fail, and they will, you could be in a sticky situation. Those would prob b fine for a mall crawler, but if you do any wheeling, spend the money on the kit.

 

There's apperently a guy in my town running around with a skateboard wheel lift on his jeep, 2" of poly, if you must use something other than a proper lift I think this would maybe be a little safer then a puck lift!

Well, if you think about it, your stock body mount bushings are made out of rubber. And now ~20 years down the road, they are shot. Hockey pucks are also made of rubber, a harder compound that the bushings, but some years down they road they will also get brittle and start falling apart. Being harder, they would not make a good body mount bushing as they have no give. And being harder, they will likely turn brittle faster than the softer rubber in the OEM bushings. If you did regular inspection of the hockey pucks to look for signs or cracking, you might be able to catch them before they fell apart.

A set of polyurethane bushings is not all that expensive and is designed to exactly fit the body mount brackets and hardware (like the internal sleeve):

Ya, I thought I might get a little for this question but I thought I'd ask anyways it seems to work for him and his heep but all invest in the factory mounts and not jerry rig my runner all put away my ducktape and bailing wire and do it right the first time...Thanks for setting me strait guys.

 

I heard of some folks using blocks of wood too..... enough said buy a damn body lift seriously.... how much time is is going to take you to dril lthe stupid pucks find longer bolts by the time your done you should have down it right the first time... lol

But its not a great idea. Think of it like using tree rounds in place of coil springs, or 2x4s instead of leaf springs. Obviously no real give, your ride quality is going to get worse, and when it fails its going to fail gloriously. I would strongly advice against any brittle compound. Just my $.02

 

My friend constantly uses them for a leveling type adaption on his Ford truck. Just below the spring in order to pre-load the spring and bring his front end up. They last about a year for him. He has been doing this for almost 6 years and is on his 5th set or something as it takes two per side.. I think he is an idiot, but he gets free pucks and likes to show them off over a beer.

As a body mount. I have no idea. But I thought I would give you the best information I could as I know what its like to try and make it work on a budget. Good luck.
