What do you do about antenna's?

i took the yota out for the first time down a trail and i must have broken the ant. bracket cause it will now swivel around all over the place. i was thinking about those universal power antennas that go up and down.

I run the stock power antenna on my '85 and it works fine. Broke it one time on a steep gravel road, did not think I was in any trees, but one must have been close enough to the road. I like the setup on the earlier trucks, the antenna control is via a separate switch so you can have it up or down independent of the radio. Actually pulls in a decent signal even fully retracted. Another option would be one of the short rubber whip antennas, or a CB antenna as mentioned above. You can run a splitter on the antenna is you use it for both CB and AM/FM. For a CB antenna, be sure to run a spring on the base:

Any power antenna can be operated remotely with a switch instead of using the radio. You just have to wire it that way. Serious off-roaders hitting tree limbs and stuff might consider a power antenna to retract and put a small cage gaurd around the base of the antenna on the fender to shed limbs.

2 things I did to 2 of my trucks:

1. I bought a $10 antenna that you tape around the inside of the windshield corners. It works okay even in those low laying areas.

2. I pulled of the ball of the end of the antenna, then shortened the antenna below the cab line, grinded the tip fit the ball with epoxy glue. Still get pretty good reception.

I put a switch inline on the blue antenna wire. That way, when the switch is "on" the antenna is up when the radio is off. When the switch is "off" the antenna is always down.

I mounted one from a Ford Focus up on the front of the roof -got it from a junkyard for $10 -base, whip, and antenna lead. Real easy install: drill a hole, remove inside rear view to get at the backside, tighten everything down with a bit of black RTV to seal it and run the wire

Is there a windshield available for our trucks that has the antenna built in it?
