one more shock length question :)
so... final shock question ( I hope
)
I want to get more flex out of my 4runner rear end...
after disconnecting my sway bar it looks like longer shocks is the answer?
right now I have a shock that is 26" extended and 15.5" compressed
sooooo...
1. is there such a thing as too much shock extension?
2. I measured and right now there is about 4.5" from rear bumpstop to axle and about 9.5" of extended shock rod.. so am I right in thinking that I have 5" more before my compressed shocks are too long? and if that is true, I should be able to fit a 31.76" extended 18.25" compressed shock because they are only 2.75" longer compressed? so I still should have 2.25" of shock travel before they are longer then the bumpstops right?
thanks guys!

No problem with too much extension, per se, but to get X" of extension, you need a shock with at least X" of can length (some additional length needed for the valving, piston, end bushings, etc. So, if you get too much extension than you can use, you can run into problems with the shock limiting compression (since the can is too long). I set up my front shocks to allow for way more extension than I can use, plus since they are folded, I get a lessended compressed length, so the shocks never limit travel up or down:

The gives me about 18.5" of vertical shock travel potential, I can use around 14-15" of it. After having a too-short shock rip the shock mount off my axle once, I don't like to have the shocks be the limiting factor on my truck.
