Need help on a 4-link for 81 PU

I'm in the middle of my build. I had planned on rear springs up front. I've moved the 22r back 9 inches and up a couple. I'm tubing the front of the truck. I should have waay more than enough room to 4-link the front easily. The main reason I want to do this is for my aproach angle, and of course flex.
I have been reading articles and tech notes like crazy. I THINK I can figure it out and build a good 4-link. Has anyone here ever designed there own? How much changin and re-building did it take? Do you think it is worth the hassle? It will obviously be a lil more $$$. I would probably go with coil springs for cost reasons. Is there anyone on this forum with decent understanding of how a 4-link works? Don't send me to pirate either. Oh, this is strictly an off-road truck, no street. I'm lookin to get about 3-4 inches of lift. Eventually run 37's, but for now It'll be on the 33's I have. I have a good departure angle now with my flatbed, and I think I will be happy with springs in the rear for now anyways. Whaddaya think?

I seem to remember Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road had a lengthy article on how to design and implement a 4-Link/Coilover suspension a year or two ago... I doubt I have the magazine anymore though. Might do a search on Google, and maybe go talk to some guys in an off-road site such as Pirate. Also, talk to SteveO, he has a huge green 4Runner with a 4-Link coil-over front.

Yes, I have petersons article, and it's a really good one. I hear that c&r motorsports sells a kit, but I think it's for the rear. There website doesn't work, and I only get a recording when I call. Plus it would be cool to fab it myself.

Either way you go with 4-link, you'll still have to do the math and plot where the links will mount, find the Ackerman angle, and test, test, test. Do yourself a favor, read all you can about it, read some more, then get a couple of buddy's who read also to help. Do it once and do it right. And don't buy someone else's mistakes cause it looks like the easy way.
