Marlin's SAS kit...lift question

I am looking to get Marlin's SAS kit for my '90 4runner. The truck has BFG MT's 285/70-16 and I think 1" spacers(I can't remember for sure). Does anyone have the kit with the 4" leafs and did it lift the front at all and how much? the rar juast has the 1.5" Downey coils.

Dennis,

I have 2-trailflex kits from Marlin with the 4" springs and your whole truck is going UP, UP, UP...If I get what you are saying you want to compare the lift to what you have now? Expect about 6-8 inches higher with axle. Those tires are gonna have to go too.

Figure at least another inch of lift from the springs initially plus at least 2 inches of lift from the hanger/shackle. So, a 4" "kit" from Marlin is more like a 6" lift.

well shoot. what's a cheap way top raise the rear to match the front? I'm emptying my piggy bank for the front to get down lol!

Ok I think I found the coils for the rear that I will need(allpro 5.5"coils) but will I also need to get longer shocks?

When you first install a solid axle swap your see lots of lift. After a bit of driving the lift will settle down a bit. With a 4" spring you can expect to see a 5" lift. On Marlin's 1980 truck with 37" goodyears on 8" wide wheels the frame height is 27.5" at the center of the truck. This is going to be similar for other years too.



For the rear you may want to consider a swap to leaf springs. Putting a tall coil spring (like FJ80 coils) in the rear causes issues with the short factory links. This causes the rear end of the truck to drift from rear steer, especially in high winds.

What chris said....you should just swap to some leafs, it will be cheaper than buying coils and all the links to properly locate the axle.

The good part is that prices have never been this low. The front solid axle swap is now down to $1249. A rear leaf spring kit is just $630 with all the hangers you will need.
