Install of gears

who hear has installed gears, I wanna put two sets of 5.29's in my 85. I have read the writeup and it looks like a pain but I dont want to spend the money to have someone do it nor do I trust anyone who has offered to do it for cheap. I am really thinking I should get the tools and do it myself. I am mechanical and am about to finish my engine swap and put on my TG lift. just asking for anyone elses experiences and or recommendations.

I hate to spend money and love to do things myself... no matter how they turn out.

However, there is an art to gear setup that can be hard to pickup over just written text. Experience really results in a good setup with long term, reliable use. A grenaded 3rd will stop you just about anywhere... and will stop you really good.

Zuk is local for me, and just set up my 5.29/ ARB rear end. I hung out in the shop while he did it so I saw his ability first hand. The guy has got skills as well as the feel that has to be developed over time.

Not only does he know how to set the gears up but he understands why to set them up that way. The difference is quality and confidence.

Peace of mind is worth the coin... in my opinion.

I have done it a few times now. Once to install the 5.29s in the rear with a lunchbox locker and then to trade that piece of crap out for the ARB. Then on the front with the E-locker. I had a friend of mine show me how to do it and I have been fine since. He has all the tools and knowledge, so I just ask him if I get stumped. I really liked learning how to do it. Now I know how it works and how critical it is to get it right. Pinion depth is a MAJOR key in getting everything to work right. Spend the time to get the correct depth the first time, so you don't have to take it apart over and over.

Pay to have your gears setup up right...and you'll only have to do it once.

I don't know how, don't have the tools but I do know people that have both.

I'd have to refer you to Zuk himself for the answer of cost. I'd imagine it would depend on exactly what parts you send him, and exactly what you are putting in. Gears, locker, bearings...etc.

He is pretty quick to respond to inquiries. Shoot him an E-Mail to get a true answer to all of your questions.
