It is a selectable electric locker, there is a FAQ section here about lockers, check that out. The closest thing to it is an ARB. If you want to get as close to factory as possible, get a factory one. There are write ups on on how to convert, it is very simple.

Dealer ship is going to be expensive. I'd stay the hell away from one that doesn't know what you are talking about, any TRD package tacoma has one.

The cheapest option is a junkyard. A wrecked 4runner or tacoma will work. Tacomas are much more likely to have them, so that's what i'd look for.

You need to figure out your gear ratio before you do it, search for it, you'll find some info. You'll need to find one with your ratio, or just regear, up to you.

Personally, i'd recomend marlins set up. If you have 4.10's, and wish to keep them, 950 get's you one, and 40 more for a harness. Can't beat it, and its brand new set up from the factory. LINK You'll be looking at the electric locking differential

Only the 4Runner Limiteds came "standard" with a factory rear e-locker. It was an option on the SR5's but not standard. Also, they are only in 4Runners from 1997 to 2000, after that they changed to a "multi-mode 4WD" with a center diff lock, that is different than a rear locker.

I have a 98' kimited and the e-locker was an options not standard (don't have one). my 2000 tacoma trd has the e-locker and it is worth the money if you do anything offroad.

the locker was an option on the 4runners, and is also on the TRD package tacomas.

The center diff lock does nothing more than give you a real transfer case, ulocked in low traction environments will give you one wheel drive.

Good ratio to have, it's pretty common.

Places to look are Junkyards for a rolled or wrecked truck, ebay, craigslist, pirate, and here. If you find one with the right gears, it will take you a day to get it in and wired, and sitting pretty.
