Duals Oh MY!

I couldn't find it in the Pirate4x4 faq

When doing duals do you need one top shift and a forward shift case? What goes up front and what goes in the rear

I am thinking Forward shift up front and a top shift in the rear right?

I should have them done on the 15th.

Check marlins web site for sure. but if you have a forward shift t-case going into the tranny then the crawl box is forward shift. The rear t-case is always top shift.

I think top shift cases front and back make things easier... but sometimes you have to use what's available.

Also, the 4.7 generally gets put in the back case, and an upgraded 23 spline shaft in the rear is a good idea as well.

I'm going to disassemble it for the adaptor and use the rear top shift for a donor to build a forward shift crawl box. I was selling for the price of another marlin adaptor. Yeah I might consider selling.

You use forward shift if you have forward shift, and top if you have top.

I'm using two top shift cases.

Heres my reduction box. My 4.7 case is also top shift, but is in the truck.

The forward shift has to go in the front, it has to to mate up to the transmission right. The case that goes in the middle must be a top shifter. I just went through all of this in doing mine. I sucked having to rip both cases all the way apart, but it is worth it.

For your turbo tranny, I think you'll need two topshift ... at least I did for mine...

Forward shift can be converted to topshift, but it costs.

LMK, I have still yet to find out if mine is 23 spline or not.

The R151 I used was a forward shift (I think all 151's are) so I used the existing 23 spline forward shift T case for the crawl box then used a 23 spline adapter and 23 spline 4.7s in the rear top shift case.

My stock turbo tranny is forward.

I can't stand it. Worst design ever. Sits right in my shin ALL THE FREAKING TIME.

Would it be better if it sat a little higher and to the left?

turbos are 23 spline stronger. I put in a 4.7 in the t-caes in my truck. The one in the picture attached to the crawl box is a donor. I need it to be top shift. Ordered the front drive shaft from high angle, I'm still running IFS so know how long I need it. Asked to have the joint opened and a long slip installed, so maybe SAS next year.

I've looked at it. I'd have to pull the shifter, which means cutting the floor just a bit, and I'm not stoked to do that. However, give me a little longer, and I'll probably get to it. Its on my pickup, so its just a zip around town vehicle. The 4runner is the long haul and wheeling truck, so its not that big of a deal.

I have a W56 with fwd shift up front. So obviously i'll need a top for the rear, but does it matter which case i put the lower gears in? And which case i put my twin sticks in?

You can put the lower gears in either case, generally the rear is recommended as it's just that much less that has to carry all the extra torque.

You can only do twin sticks in the rear case as it's the only complete case - the front is just the reduction box.
