my 3rd member and my recently rebuilt front axle both have multi pattern flanges on them and everything worked out cool.now i want to add a cv joint to the rear of my rig.ill be using an ifs front shaft to get the cv.will this bolt right up to the output on my tcase flange?its a 95 runner w auto and v6.

 

Maybe, maybe not. Measure the bolt hole pattern and see, there are a few different bolt hole patterns:

Also I think the automatics may have studs in place of bolts. If needed you could remove the studs and redrill holes as needed or replace that flange with a multiple pattern flange as well. I used a front output flange on my rear output when I converted to a CV shaft.

 

you could get another tcase output flange with that same bolt pattern, or they sell tcase output flanges with the multi-pattern holes as well. just another option.

the front had studs,i didnt even look at the rear.ill basically just be turning the shaft around.the top end will be going to the pinion and the new cv end will be going to the t case.the axle end will fit because its got several patterns.is the flange easily removed?(or is it like an axle and actually set preload).if it can be removed easily i guess i could just redrill the one i have.i assume that the pocket and the boss that locates it centrally is the same ...correct?

 

i just looked on rogers site and saw the difference between the 4 and 6 cyl bolt pattern.does this mean that my front and rear flanges are the same bolt pattern?if so i can check this easily without removing the shaft.(i wont be near the trk for a while)

 

Yep, same locating ring and pocket on both front and rear shafts and at the t-case and pinion flanges. Only actual difference between a pinion and t-case flange is the dust shield (which can be removed and replaced), otherwise they are interchangeable. T-case flange is easy to swap, just torque down the nut to ~90 ft.lbs. or so and stake the nut, no pre-load issues to worry about.

 

Well there are CV joint patterns and u-joint patterns, so the front shaft is typically a CV and the rear is typically a u-joint, so typically they are drilled differently. Just measure bolt-bolt on one side and the adjacent side to get a rough idea of the bolt pattern w/o pulling the shaft off.
