Converting From Coil Springs to Coilovers--
i've done a bit of research on this but i am still having a hard time finding an answer.
I would like to convery my 4runner 1999 from coil sprung to coil-overs but i am not sure about what angle to set them at? and why
Little background. I have a true triangulated 4 link in the rear with 10" of droop and 4" of uptravel. However, i would prefer the coilovers to make room for spare and clean it up a bit down there.
Long story short--would it be best to just mount them verticle with no side to side or front to back angle? I know it would be best to put them as far out as possible on the corners....
I know i will have to cut into the body ....already cut fyi....
So any experienced suspension guys out there? Whats your take.
Me, i was going to mount them completely verticle and have the hoop go into the body and mount to the frame.
Thanks

im not a pro on this but, look at some of the prerunner trucks and how they go thru the bed with their setups and you might get some ideas. and you dont necessarilly have to go all the way to the outside of the axle. it would be more stable as far as body roll goes but that can be cured by a sway bar also. if your shocks are 100% vertical you will only get the wheel travel that the shock travel allows vs angled which lets you cheat a bit more travel out of the shock. good luck.

far out means more stbility but if you but them closer in you will get a longer flex arc because the closer to the center the less the axle moves when you flex therefore you shocks wont bottom out as fast and you get more flex! im not saying go all the way in, i'd find a nice happy medium somewhere

i am thinking mounting them exactly where the old coils are would work. they are (from what I can see) are straight? and the suspension feels good right now with minimal body lean--however the springs are further out and the shocks are closer in.
SO from what i am hearing is angling the coils a bit lets you cheat on how long the shocks should be.hhhhmmmm
