Automatic Disconnecting Diff. If you have auto hubs you have ADD. Manual hubs have a dial on each of the front wheels.

Auto hubs != ADD

Auto hubs are an entirely different beast, and they suck. If you have ADD you have drive plates instead of lockout hubs. Auto hubs look like regular hubs, except they don't have the turnable dial and they operate by locking up if the shaft is turned forwards. They suck because they can unlock when backing up.

so what would it take to switch to manual hubs right now if i wanted to? could i go to a junkyard, get a set of hubs, the axle that i need(the cv that is broken right now) and just switch the parts out, or do i need to switch both axles alltogether? or is it even feasible or needed for a truck with 3" of suspension lift on 33's?

thanks

Smile

if you go to a junkyard this is what you will need:
both halfshafts off of a manual hub taco
both knuckle assemblies with hubs off of same truck
rig your add diff to be engaged all of the time
i think thats about it, im pretty sure that the inner tripod joint splines are the same so you can use your add diff with the non add axles
if im not correct, anyone please correct me

this thread is the exact reason i was glad i had a 2nd gen IFS. manual hubs are easy then. Of course none of that matters if you JUST hang a solid front axle under there
