Best freight option for ARB bumper

Anyone have suggestions on the least expensive way to get an ARB bullbar from California to Ohio? I imagine it has to go freight, but I'm just looking for tips from those with experience shipping items of that size. If you buy new, how does ARB ship them?

This will no doubt end up being a moot point, given what a harsh mistress ebay is, but I'm trying to stay positive.

Forward Air is one option (http://www.forwardair.com/). Runs about 35 cents/lb. Take the part to their depot, stick it on a palette and off it goes. FedEx Ground is another option, home delivery weight limit is 70 lbs, to a business about twice that. UPS Ground is also an option, about $1/lb across the country.

I hear that UPS won't do it (too heavy), but I guess we'll see. Forward air might not be too bad; 150lbs x $ 0.35 = $52.00 Could it reall be that cheap? Wow! Gonna have to hit up that link!

I think UPS and FedEx top out around 130 lbs for regular shipments. I've shipped with F/S twice, once nearly 400 lbs. of wheels tires for about $120 and a front axle and parts that was about 210 lbs, for about $70 or so. You do have to take the load to them and at the other end pick it up at the closest warehouse. If you use them, get a quote, add at least $20 to that and pick up a certified check or money order (no cash, credit cards or personal checks). If the extra is at least $20 you can get a refund (in time, I'm still waiting for mine from my last shipment).

One trick I learned the 2nd time was that I had the items boxed and weighed when I took them up there. First time I took the wheels/tires in they loaded them up on a palette then dropped the whole thing on the scale. So ended up having to pay shipping on the palette (maybe $5-10 more). 2nd time with the weight on their shipping forms, they just took that and ran with it. Customer service is not one of their strong points . You have to grab a forklift guy to go bring your stuff in and stand in line with the commercial truck drivers to get the paperwork in. I found mid-afternoon is the best time to go in, after the morning shipments have come in and left and the evening shipments have not started coming in.

Or if the company you work for uses truck freight, talk to one of the shipping folks and see if you can get it shipped that way. I did one set of sliders for a full size Dodge pickup, something like 160 lbs/8' long for the pair, shipped coast to coast via Yellow Freight and I think it was under $40 with the corporate rate. A called in myself and they quoted me over $400 for the same item as a personal shipment.

Forward air looks like my best bet. Gapguy said he'd run it down there for me if the seller doesn't seem up to it (they are in the same town). Again, I will ask when I call them in the am, but do you know if I, as the receiver, could pay for shipping at my end? Or is that not likely to work?

Thanks for all the help, now I just need to win my auction....

Shipping is pre-paid, you the receiver can send the shipping office a cashiers check ahead of time. That is how my first shipment was done. Buyer had paid the shipping based upon an estimate of the weight, then he applied for a refund once the actual cost was known.

I called Forward Air- $67 is the estimate. Not Bad. I think its too big for greyhound.

Jared, I haven't won it yet (not that you should go and try and out-bid me ).
The guy selling it didn't seem to have thought about shipping (he was thinking UPS would take it, which I doubt) so I just want my bases covered ahead of time, rather than win it and have it all turn into some big fustercluck over shipping.

I worked for UPS for 16 years, trust me they will not take it.Maybe Fed Ex ground but unlikley.Just for the record UPS weight limit is 150 lbs. and 130" in length & girth combined but no longer than 108".Measure around it at the biggest part then measure the length.

Well, I got it! Now I just need to get in contact with the seller a little better (He returned one email, but then I think he went into hiding due to the barage he was probably getting) and work the shipping issue out.

With any luck my refund will show soon so I don't have to charge it.....
(I thought E-File was supposed to speed things along)
