battery disco

Anyone ever use a battery disconnect. Like what's mandated on drag cars. I had my truck stolen about a month ago. And thought a good theft prevention would be to build a hidden disco. Just turn the key, and the rig acts as if there wasn't any battery at all. Nothing will make a guy more pissed than seeing his baby totaled after it was stolen.

When I did a fuel pump upgrade on my Eclipse I spliced in a hidden power switch when I did the re-wire;very effective and easy to do.

I think a power disconnect between the starter and the battery would be a good idea but not between the battery and all other power accessories, then you would always be reprogramming your radio, and clock!

this would be done to a trail only rig. no clock or radio. i was just thinking bout a good theft deterrant. I like the idea of a fuel shut off. but, i wouldn't want some moron messing with a bunch of stuff to try to get it started. if he turned the key with nothing happening, then he'd have left my truck alone. he just hot wired it, then destroyed my truck. i think he rolled it at least 3-4 times. i'm actually suprised that he didn't kill himself. just really made me mad to see my truck totaled after i spent about 5 months working on it. now it aint worth more than scrap weight. and to think, i had the only rust free toyota in Missouri.

Hehe I had a 86.5 Nissan Pickup I did that to I hardwired the fuel pump to a switch I could turn off and on after the EFI fuel relay wires fryed on it because the previous fuel pump failed. It worked quite well the only thing the gas gauge did work but who cares it was a trail rig.

Damn that sucks man I feel your pain. I am trying to put mine back together mine wasn't stolen even worse a buddy borrowed it took it wheeling and wrecked it. I have spent almost $5000 on mine since I bought it and now I have another $750-1000 in repairs to do to it to put it back to where it was.

A good battery disconect will have a small wire that remains connected to maintain thing like radio presets, learned EFI settings, odometer trips(in the case of an electronic trip meter), etc. It isn't large enough to provide the cranking amps for the starter, just large enough to maintain those things that are irritating to reset.

I have a "kill switch" in all my cars, I have either run it from the coil or fuel pump and just hide the switch somewhere. A good friend is assigned to an auto theft unit and said a kill switch is much more effective than any alarm. Oh, and by the way, I also get a discount on my insurance for having one.
