ARB Sahara Bar on a 3rd Gen

Hey just looking into getting a bar for my 4Runner (merry xmas to me!)

So since the ARB Prado Sahara bar fits the 4Runner... does anyone know if the ARB Prado Deluxe bar will fit?

Normal Sahara:

it might, but the prado in the first pic wearing the sahara bar and the prado in the second pic wearing the deluxe bar are different models. the deluxe bars aren't available in the US as far as i know, anyway.

i like the deluxe bar better than the sahara, and if i ever get my hands on a free mangled arb bull bar, then i'll combine the two and make my own.

Official word from ARB is no. The appearence is the same but they won't work on the runner unless you wanted to do some fabricating. Not to mention they are not ABS compatible as they aren't designed for the 4runner cush on the frames. Doesn't mean it can't be done.

I am with you though that is a sweet looking bumper.

Bummer... Yeah its deffinately my favorite.

I have friends in Aus who could probably buy it there and ship it to me which would circumvent the not avaliable here, but sounds like a lot of work to get it to mount up properly.

A question on the normal Sahara then... is the hoop removable, and is it removable once the bar is installed? How much protection would it acutally offer in a deer scenario?

the hoop is removable, but if not attached, there would be two gaping holes in the rubber guard that starts on the front and wraps up and over the top. once it's mounted, you can't remove the chrome hoop, you have to remove the bumper from the brackets unless you have tiny hands and don't have a winch.

it would offer a good bit of protection for the radiator, but due to the slant, if you don't have a lift to get up and over a deer, then the deer would more than likely go up and over the bar and onto the windshield or the top of the runner. same goes for the standard bar since the brackets for the headlight loops are slanted just like the hoop on the sahara bar.

Sounds good. I was mostly just wondering how secure it was since I had heard it was bolted on and since the hoops are welded on the other ones.

ARB Sahara it shall be then... looks like I'm copying you as I'm going to go for the IPF900 MSRs too

, but good luck finding the MSR's and don't forget to budget an additional $200 or so for the IPF 924 fog lights that go in the Sahara Bar....

the best prices on a sahara bar that i've seen has actually been on ebay...

Are the MSRs Rare or something? And any link for the IPF 924? Can't find em on www.arb.com.au

prado bar should be the same or a few $ cheaper than the tundra bar. that price is the bar only - you have to add the fog light package if you want them.

the 924's are the fog light kit for the sahara bar. they aren't listed.

i'm not sure that they're still making the MSR's. i don't see them mentioned much anymore...

the 924s are closer to $250 and you should order them with the bar. I didn't and all it did was cost more $$$ for extra shipping.

There is also an 800xs. 100w 8" and submersible for 10seconds

Yeah maybe they're replacing the 800/900MSR with the 800/900XS? The XS is supposedly more durable/submersable etc... but they're only a 55W bulb instead of 130W. I'd prefer the MSR.

I'll order the IPF 924s with the bullbar... and the 900MSRs as well.

Just modified a set of Sahara brackets for a 2" body lift on a 3rd gen. Owner also wanted the brackets shortened 2" to pull the bumper in closer to the vehicle:

Sectioned 2" on the left, stock bracket on the right:

Bumper mounting tab raised 2":

Added bracing on the back and top:

Finished brackets:

No installed pix. yet, probably in about 6-8 weeks.

I was wondering what you had to do to get the bumper to work if you added a body lift, good to know.

with a 1" or 1.5" BL there is enough adjustment in the brackets to compensate for the gap. 2" or more and I would hack them up and redo them.

Hey Neil,

I will post pics when I get it all together. Might be a little while, but hopefully before the New Year. Can't lift anything heavy right now, Dr.'s orders
Oh, by the way, Roger is the guy to see when doing this sort of stuff. Great work! Thanks ---Pam
