Anyone ever hear of Road Armor?

I saw this recently in Irvine. It looks beefy but I'm wondering if it's a functional mod or just for looks.
This was taken on my phone camera so sorry about the quality:

Here's their webpage: Road Armor

I don't know anyone with one so I can't give you factual accounts, but to me they look like they are a bit over the top. The size of the tubing on the picture you sent is pretty ridiculous.

looks like a receiver hitch. a good way to get a strong recovery point in the middle of the front of the truck is to install a front mounted receiver hitch. there are a few companies out there that make them even without a custom bumper.

(of course, yotas come with a good recovery point on one side of the front, so you generally don't really need to install an aftermarket one...though having the recovery point in the middle of the truck instead of off to the side has its advantages...plus, it enables you to carry one receiver mounted winch which you can attach to the front or back as needed.)

i agree with jared, though...that thing is either made of aluminum (or some other lightweight and weak material) and, thus, is not functional or it weighs wayyyy more than it needs to.

looks like expensive poop. There is a company here in San Diego that will make a functional aluminum bumper if you want that look.

Stuff is very expensive--but looks cool...

Haven't heard of it for about a year.
As far as I know it's very functional, but it's only designed for fullsize domestics. (Hummer, Dodge, Ford, Chevy, etc)

Reminds me of Mad Max.

ok, so given that it is functional, how much does it weigh??

i think you could get nearly the same functionality (at least for off-road use, maybe not for running into acuras ) with considerably less weight.

I saw a Dodge w/ one at a gas station and the quality/design is impressive. I thought it was great, and it's definitely the real deal.

Looks like they want to get into Toyotas too

The road armor bumpers look good on the the big 3/4 and 1ton trucks that are lifted, they do look too big on a stock truck though. I am pretty sure they are made out of steal, weight is not really a concern when you have a 600+ ftlb diesel under the hood, that and the trucks they go on must already weigh 7k-8k pounds right from the factory. I am not posotive but im thinking road armor might be a branch company of trail ready?

I like it, but it will probably be way to much $$$ and way to heavy to be very practicle on a V6 4Runner.
