i have a 93 2wd pick up and want to get some extra ground clearence for the desert but i want to do it cheap. i was wondering what would be a good way of going about this. i found some 24mm torsion bars from downey off-road. any info is appreciated

 

i think total chaos or camburg make a long travel susp for your year...

 

I was going to say Chaos! then I saw "cheap".

I would look at some drop spindles or just upper arms if you want a little extra clearance. You will still have decent ride quality, more travel and all bolt on is a plus. Look at the companies that mass produce, like Fabtech. T-bars stiffen everything up, IMO not for the better and strain other parts more then other options may.

 

downey also makes a long travel kit for the 2wds

 

thanks for the info. how much lift can i get with just the upper fabtech arms. i should also note that im not really going to be doing any offroading just want more clearance so i dont bottom out when towing my baja out to the camp site. my truck sits really low as it is. also how much clearance can i get if i crank the stock torsions up and add rear shackles

 

Check their site, but I think you get 2-3". No off-roading, thats respectable. I would go for the cheapest option then, while retaining someone stock ride comfort. I don't think you wouldn't get more then and inch or 2 by cranking stock t-bars. Ride would be a bit stiff-er too. You will get an inch or 2 at most from rear shackles. I would do new leafs in the rear, upper arm and spindle up front from a company like Fabtech, just to stay reasonable, cost wise. They will be significantly cheaper then Chaos or Camburg. Keep in mind you get what you pay for. Thats my opinion.

Definitely compare prices, because I haven't looked at 2wd kits in a few years. I only mention Fabtech because the original owner used to live across the street from my parents, growing up.

Looking at Downey's site, looks like you can get 3"s all around for about 6-700$. Not bad. Downey wont do you wrong. There are right around the corner from me. Cool guys.

 

good luck with the fabtech stuff. they stopped making parts for the 2wd pickups a few years back so most stuff you will find now is used and abused. a good set of there lift spindles are damn near imposable to find and the upper arms are getting to be the same way. go see this thread for a few ideas alsohttps://www.yotatech.com/forums/f31/...my-2wd-157791/

 

I was reading that late last night, robert. Some companies have NOS still, but I would definitely go where you can get the stuff straight from the manufacturer.

Fabtech was the stuff when I was in HS, everything was custom and their shop was right the down the street. It's too bad.

 

i lifted my front wiht some 4 inch lift spindles, it came out lookin good i would like a little more lift, but it was cheap $250, hard to find em these days, but as for ride feeling they arent very good, it doesnt improve the suspension handling at all , and the torsion bars im not sure about them how they would do ,

i have a 94 2wd. and i have been looking at all the different kinds of lifts TC is the best bang for your bucka dn camburd doesen t make anything for trucks older then 2000. there is a company called RRP fabrication that has some awesome stuff and they look alot more beefy then any thing else ive seen out there. i have heard rumors that t-100 A-arms will fit the the 2wd but i don t know how much longer they are or anything about them really but, i am headed to the junk yard to see if i can make them work or if they are worth it.
