87 Turbo Tranny/Transfer case.

I have an 87 Turbo 4runner, automatic. I have 204K miles on the drive train. IMO its time to either rebuild or replace. I was going to go with a Marlin Crawler swap out or rebuild but my hopes where crushed when I told them I have an automatic. So far I cant find anyone in Southern Cally that will upgrade gears because of the automatic. Cal Mini trucks said they will swap out to a 5 speed W56, but I think it wont be strong enough for the turbo. I was wondering is it worth it or does anyone have any other ideas I can go with. Sorry for my life story, just want to make sure I get it done right the first time.

upgrade the gears in the tranny? Or tcase? If you mean tcase, check out Jim @ inchworm gear. He JUST announced dual cases for the a340H tranny..

i would just swap it to the 5spd. w56's are plenty strong, its basically the same as the transmission behind the 2.7L taco motor

W56 will be fine behind the 4cyl turbo, i run one behind my inline 6 7MGTE turbo and its holding up fine for my driving style. If you do burnouts etc all the time there arent alot of trannies that will hold out for long.
