285/75 r16 or 305/70s?

I am trying to figure out which size tire I should get when my 265s wear out.

I have 1.5" of spacer lift on my 2nd gen runner. I only wheel in the snow, so travel isnt a huge deal for me, just tire size. I am going to space up the bump stops till the tires fit. (reducing the uptravel that the tire can go so it wont rub)

am I going to be having a heck of a time fitting 305s? they are 33x12 I believe. I have seen people do it, but with more lift. I don't realy want any more lift, if I can get away with it.

any input??
thanks

I have stock 4th gen(?) rims

Man ....

I searched for a while, but it seems like no one with only 1.5" lift has 305s...

theres a 3rd gen but hes got more lift.

I guess I'll try it.. it will be a while for my tires to wear though

or 255/85-16 ... it's plenty of flotation for our trucks when aired down.

What width rims do you have?

Treadwright retread only has 285s or 305s.. otherwise i would go 255/85

their tires are cheap and not too bad of quality
$400 for set of 4, 285s are same price as 305

ive had their stuff before

dont bother with the 305's unless youve got some wheel spacers or rims with proper backspacing and width. stock rims are usually pretty deeply backspaced, and that causes clearance issues with control arms. a friend of mine put on 285/75/16 MT's on stock runner 16X7 5 spokes. they fit, but rub at full lock. he ended up getting some .25" spacers. this was on a 2nd gen runner.

Did you ever go with the 305 or just the 285. I ask because I just got some 305/70/16's from my buddy for dirt cheap, and I want to put them on my 95 Runner that has a 2" lift on it and stock 3rd gen rims. Do I need wheel spacers? and if so how big? I don't really do any off roading, but I do drive in the snow a lot. So clearance is not that big of a deal to me as long as they stick to the ice and snow. Thanks.
