Vibration on Tundra - Warped rotors?

I have a Tundra Ltd. 03, bought it new and now have 5000 miles on it. I didn't like the tires that came on it, so I just changed to Goodrich All Terr. TA/KO 265/70/17. After the new tires went on, I noticed a vibration at 34-40mph. I had the tires rebalanced, Road Force Hunter, and the vibration is still there. I am now wondering if I have a warped rotor. What are the symptoms? I love this truck but the vibration is annoying. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
LD

If it is the rotors you should notice it when braking also. It sounds like a balance to me. Where did you have them done at?

Discount ussually does a good job of balancing. Have you got an alignment recently?

No,, It only has 5000 miles on it. I wouldn't think it would need it.
But if you think that is the problem, I'll get it checked.

It is hard to say. All it takes is a hard hit to a curb to screw up the alignment. I don't know too much about Tundra's I'm sure somebody will chime in with anouther idea.

toyota i think provides 1 free alignment during the 1st yr. Not sure but you might want to check your warranty card and try reading the fine print.

sounds like a balancing issue though.. Since it wasn't apparently w/ the old tires. If not check the driveshaft... maybe you have a small dent/kink or something?

also check for dirt on your wheels as that could do it too!?

It just might be the balancing of the tires (maybe a weight fell off), alignment might be a possibilty, or I have heard also of misaligned drive shafts. Take it to a dealer if you can and push for it under warranty to have it checked.

Question: Are your replacement tires the same load rating? If you went to a higher load rating, this might add to any balance or out-of-round issues you may have.

Got the Tundra back today,, The vibration is coming from the new Goodrich AT/KOs.
And to further the problem, they cannot do an alignment on those tires because of the raised bead. So,,, back to Discount tire.

WHAT..., can't do an alignment because of the "raised beads"? That doesn't make any sense, the wheel sensors go on the rim, that bead attaches to underneath the rim seat and should have nothing to do with the lip. You simply attach the sensor to the rim and vola. Somebody is yanking your chain.

If you look at the bottom pic, you'll see four extending arms that attach to the rim. The end of those arms has an arch to it, and it simply goes in behind the rim seat on (in front of the bead).

And if they can't do it, then they don't belong in the auto industry because me (even though I don't have an ASE degree) aligned a 2003 Tundra, with the hard as hell to turn rear limited slip differential (you gotta turn the wheels to center the wheel sensor's balance), with the bigger 17" rims! I just jammed the lips behind the wheel.

i was recently coming back from the beach and i was getting vibrations at 70, and since this is the speedlimit it was driving me nuts..... so i stopped in this little town to check it out and sure enough it was sand caked in my wheels. i just sprayed them out and mine was fine.... i think you should check for dirt or mud...

I have heard of this from other people with BFGs on light trucks. The story is that the tread compound is a little funny. What I mean is that some parts of the tread have harder rubber than others. So when the tires start to be used and develope flat spots they casue a vibration. I have the same problem with my BFG long trails One thing you could do is see about having the tires shaved right there on the truck and balenced with the wheel mounted on the truck too (there are special machines that do this) that way everything is balenced and with the truck.

Lug centric wheels

After 3 sets of tires, all new from the same tire shop, and I'd guess 8 balance/rebalance jobs, Sears, Toyota, and others,I found a thread that rasied the question of balancing the wheels of toyota trucks, factory wheels, using an adapter to hold the wheel to the balance spindle. It uses the lug pattern to establish the center.
I found a shop that offered this service and the problem, just as you described you are having, went away.
Toyota has a TSB SU00292 on this issue but my local dealers don't have the gear. Even had the service manager tell me he would get it and give me a call, I'm still waiting....

Try Gadgetonline.com for the tire balancing problem link.

Good luck
