My Dad owns a 00 SR5 Tundra, completely STOCK, he is having a problem with the EFI 1 fuse blowing on start up.. He replaces it with the alike 15AMP fuse with the same results.. He sticks in a 20AMP fuse and it starts up just fine.. He has called the dealer and they (like always) dont have any clue..

Has anyone seen or heard of a problem like this?? If so, what is is ???

I know this is seems to be a small problem, but its the small problems that plague the mind with "what if's...."

So what happens when he uses a 20 AMP? Does it also blow?

I am not an electrician so I can't really help you on this but I know, essentially when a fuse blows too much current is flowing. In that case, did you clean the contacts when installing the new fuse, maybe some type of contamination is drawing more current ? Maybe the injector (if it's electronic) is drawing current because it's bad or the injector wiring is contaminated with something. If it's under warranty, try having the dealer replace the injector, that would be my best advice, but sorry I can't help you any more than that.

 

Something somewhere is drawing too much current, either a short or something else. You don't want to up the amperage of the fuse, it's a certain value for a reason and upping it can lead to electrical fires. Diagnosing the problem from here requires an electrical schematic of the system that that fuse powers, and lots of time spent disconnecting things here and there and re-testing to try and isolate the problem.

 

Shane you were right on, the 20AMP fuse worked fine until yesterday morning and then it blew.. My Dad was like enough, he towed it to the dealer and they said the only thing on that circuit was the FI and the fuel pump, they said the fuel pump was working but faulty, because it required more juice to work properly it would trip the 15AMP.. Makes sense, but it will be about a week before the new FP comes in from Texas..
