Ring gear pattern help - 07 Tundra - 10.5" rear - Nitro gears
Hi,
I have been working with installing my new gear set and I would like some opinions on my gear pattern.
The backlash: 0.00551181102 inches (0.14mm)
Pinon bearing preload - 19-20 lb.ft + 1-2 ft.lb for carrier bearing preload
Pinion shim: 0.0511811024 inches
For me the drive seems ok, but I can't figure out the coast. Is it a bit to much towards the top?
If I need to change depth shim it would be nice If you recommend if i add or take of some as the terms is a bit confusing for me yet

My mistake, I wrote wrong when converting. Will edit the post.
The backlash is 0.14 millimeters = 0.00551181102 inches
(The factory manual states: Standard backlash: 0.10 to 0.20 mm (0.00394 to 0.00788 in.)

I have been to his site earlier, and it is a lot of good and well documented builds there. Thanks for sharing again
I think I need to add a thicker shim when reading trough his builds, so I will pull it apart again tomorrow and try.
Bought a whole lot off oem shims, hopefully I have what i need.
Any opinions on the pattern now be a big help, so I do not need to pull it apart to many times.

Update
Update, after reading trough the builds on gearinnstalls I had a new go at it.
I did change the pinion shim to make it shallower:
New data:
Backlash: 0.00787401575 inches (0.20mm)
Pinon bearing preload - 10 ft.lbs (To be easier to turn)
Pinion shim: 0.0482283465 inches (from 0.0511811024)
In my opinion it looks better now. I think I will finish it and run like this if not anybody see something way off.
