New Water Pump at 65k??
Hi guys! I just got back from the dealership to get my timing belt changed and they told me I needed a new water pump. Now I know that when you're there changing the belt, if the pump needs to be replaced, you do it right then but I'm not absolutely sure I needed it. Granted it's behind the plastic cover and I didn't check the weep hole before I brought it in but have you guys ever heard of the water pump being replaced on this low of miles?? It was an additional $234 that I hadn't planned on spending but if it actually needed it, fine, that's not a problem. I know the truck is almost 10 years old and was stored in a garage for a couple of years so is it more of an age thing with the seals than the milage?? Thanks in advance for the advise.

Okay. I replaced the water pump on my Corolla at 120k and my Accord at 130k so I wasn't sure if 65k was considered abnormal. Now that I've thought about it, it had the original antifreeze in there since brand new, (seriously, I'm the original owner) and thinking that could have lead to the "early" demise of the pump. I checked the cap, also original, and found a bunch of green watery sediment and the normally red antifreeze was brownish kinda watery redish. I had it flushed at the dealer along with a new thermostat too so I hope they got close to at least 90 - 95% with it. The truck ran it's normal temp on the drive home. Thanks again for the help and yes I am a blonde. :pat:
