LSD vs ALSD

I read on another forum that what Toyota calls a Auto Limited Slip Differential is not a traditional LSD differential. The slip is actually controlled by applying the brakes to the spinning wheel. Any comments?

Thanks. I have a 2010 Tundra 4X4, Double Cab. Using it to tow a travel trailer. Getting to know the truck better.

It called A-TRAC, not auto limited slip.

Is that similar to brake modulation on an HMMWV? (assuming there are that many people who've even driven one) And does it apply to just the newer rigs? Like 2000 something + model years?

Yes, sounds like it. It simulates an LSD by braking the spinning wheel and getting the diff to transfer power to the wheel with traction.

09+ taco's have it. Unsure of which 4runner's have it.
