4.5L Diesel

4.5L Diesel
Okay, so I know that toyota released a 4.5L V8 Diesel for the AU land cruiser in 2008. I have also heard it should bolt in where a 4.7 would go
my question is
for sale locally is a 04 tundra double cam limited, with a blown motor, I could get it cheap. I was thinking about potentially putting one of these in, if I could get my hands on one, is this reasonable?

I called a company that specializes in importing motors. Problem is is that the engine is so new, there's not a lot of wrecked vehicles for donor motors, or so he says. Anyway, we talked for a few min and he says that if I do decide to go along with it, I should wait because supposedly some company specializing in toyota diesels is coming out with a conversion harness to make it plug and play. Anyway he gave me a ballpark quote of 1,800 delivered to my front door, I assume the harness should be around 200, so I'm looking at 2000 in the end.
So, for now I'm not doing much, as 2k is a bit more than I want to spend. Maybe If the truck stays for sale a long time and I can get him down to a lower price, I may consider buying it and storing it until I can obtain a 4.5. But, I want one sooooooooooooooo bad.

i find it extremely hard to believe that you could touch that motor for less than $5000, and shipping from your next door neighbor is gonna be a couple hundred.
i hope you get it, this would be a kick ass swap. but the numbers don't match up.
like i said i hope you can do it.

this is for the 3.0T toy diesel, about $4-5K just for the motor.
give them a call they will have info for you.

A Tundra with a Blown motor? 2004? Sounds like a scam...what else is wrong with the truck?
Gimme his number, ill come down and buy the thing lol. I wouldn't think that truck would last more than 10 minutes for sale.

If you can pick that truck up for cheap (maybe it has a salvaged title) I'd keep my eye out for a wrecked '07+ with the 5.7. Take that beast of an engine and throw it in the better looking '04 and you'd have one sweet a$$ truck.

ah yes, an update
Went and looked at the truck. It wasn't exactly what I expected. It had been setting for like 3 years, is covered in moss, and the interior is dirty. I wasn't impressed. He also said he is still debating selling it.
As for the motor, evidently they found a motor. jjrgr- you called it. They say it will probably be up around 6k for it.
I'll keep you updated when I make a decision.

D-4-d V8 Td's
I sent some emails out to Toyota Australia yesterday enquiring about the new
4.5L TD and if they would even sell parts to you outside of OZ. I also asked if the would sell a new Crated unit. Should be interesting. Will keep you posted.

You are talking about the Hino dually Tundra at the 2007 SEMA show. That was only a concept vehicle. They said they have no plans for production.

offshore diesels
So....Interm update
After emailing a number (16) of Dealerships in Oz the response has been......
well there hasn't been one,(yes no or f.y.v. much). I think it's a lot like some of the Toy dealer here in Canada not wanting to support Products from other markets. They don't want to talk to you, and likley have been told NOT too. I think there only two ways at this point to deal with diesel conversion needs.
1) Talk to someone like Diesel Toyz, have them import a half cut and
swap it in or try it yourself.
2) Buy a diesel rhd 25 yrs old (us) 15yrs(cdn) and swap to driving something
else entirely
3) buy a jdm unit 15yrs gut it and swap in what you want. You keep your
vin # maybe have to deal with motor vech./ dmv maybe not. I am
seriously considering this. I am currently looking at buying an hzj type and
swapping everything in to a high miler access cab tundra. You would get
what Toyota REFUSES
to provide to the N.A. market; a reasonble
sized pickup with good fuel economy and a bulletproof drivetrain. A BONUS
IS....ENS Industrial supports this drivetrain competely for the mining
industry here AND noT having to deal with shady importers for parts etc.
MY 2c
MAKES ME WANNA
sam
see also toyota.co.uk and check out the artic hilux and tell me why we can't have that drive train in a 1st gen TUNDRA/ NEW TACO??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
