2001 sequoia P0505 Idle Circuit Malfuntion HELP
Hey guys im new to the forum, Ive got a 2001 sequoia 4.7 v8 with the check engine light on and code reading of p0505. The only issue the truck has is that it idles at a low speed, idles rough, and will ocassionaly die when idleing. I can live with this as it dosn't affect the driveability too much but i have to get it fixed in order to pass my smog check.
Ive been googling for the code and only found two relevant posts. They state that the entire throttle body assembly has to be replaced in order to fix the issue. Thats a $1K solution
This post states the idle air control vavle is bad for the p0505 code:http://www.fixya.com/cars/t5319275-2...ng_p0505_po420
This other post states the throttle body needing to be replaced: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=249638
Has anyone else had this problem and found a cheaper solution then just handing the dealer a thousand dollars for the parts?

I haven't done anymore research so don't take this as an end all answer. One interesting thing to note is that with the code and cel on , my traction control stops working which is kinda cool lol.

Well the idle issue started getting so bad that the motor would die at every stoplight or low speeds. I started having to drive with a foot on each pedal. Well today I pulled the air intake tube off the throttle body and sprayed it with with some throttle body cleaner. I scrubbed what I could with a small brush and rag from inside of the tb.
Just got back from a test drive and it looks like its fixed !! The check engine light is off, the motor idles back up where its supposed to and dosnt hesitate when applying throttle anymore. So I spent 4 bucks for tb cleaner and 40 min of my time and saved over $1000.00

I am having the same issue with my 2001 Sequoia. They told me $1300 to fix it. It is at the shop now. Since you cleaned the throttle bottle, did the lights ever come back on or ever have any more issues? I asked them to clean in since it was already in their shop and they said it was not that dirty. It has 101,000 miles on it and has never been clean so I have a heard time believing that. I think I want to try cleaning it first.

2001 Sequoia idle fixed
I see how old this post is, but just in case someone else has this issue and searches. I would like to offer a solution.
I did what someone else posted and cleaned my throttle body. I learned how to remove it from this video
.
Unfortunately he spent too much money and he also had a Tundra but the engine looked enough like mine for me to use the information on removing it.
In cleaning I also found and replaced my PCV valve which lead to a little port and hole that I noticed was packed with gunk so i cleaned that as well and my truck runs (what seems to be) better than before.
Hope this blesses someone else like the information from this site and you tube blessed me and my pockets.

Research helped
Hi I have a 2001 toyota sequoia. Had 2 codes a p0505 and p0306. 505 is for the idle air control and 306 is for a misfire. So changed the plugs, because a misfire will cause the idle to change. So when I first drove it engine light came on and threw these codes. So thought plugs would fix misfire. #6 plug was bad. Changing them didn't help so next was the idle air control. Cleaned throttle body no change. The problem was the ignition coil. It was bad making it have a miss and misfire causing it to throw these 2 codes. Always check your codes and go from there. 220,000 miles and 1st problem ever. So no complaints on the sequoia.
