FJ40 Under Dash transfer case info?

So I picked up a late 69 build (title'd '70) FJ40. It's a bag of parts, basically... has a SBC swap done in probably the early 80's then looks to be parked parked next to the ocean... Not running, just trying to obtain information as I go.

In any event - it's the better body of the 2 we picked up this weekend (this has tons of surface rust & oxidation with only a few worrysome areas) but the other didn't come with engine/transmission/transfercase.

I believe it has a chevy auto transmission (not sure, haven't attempted to identify it yet) with hurst shifter. It's the only lever on the floor of the truck. There's no stock spot for the shifter to come up either. The '76 we picked up - transmission cover has a hole for the transfer case. Friends '68 has the floor mounted transfer case.

There's an under-dash lever that seems to only go forwards/backwards and nothing on the dash resembling how to shift it. I researched a bit on google but nothing seems to come up.

Anyone have a diagram or further information? The only thing I could find was a for sale ad from a couple years ago that said "2 speed underdash transfer case".

This all appears to be stock... Both axles roll, rear driveline is out, front is connected, and the Warn hubs are frozen open (luckily the '76 front disc axle has good Warn hubs & plan to swap the entire axle).

Thanks for any info!

Its a vacuum operated system iirc. You may be able to search that and have better luck. It's been a while since I've dealt with the older ones....

And ih8mud.com may be a better forum for any pertaining info.
