You need to look in the classic trader, Plan on $8500 for a FJ-40. $4000 would be for a FJ-62 which is a wagon like the 4Runner.

You could even find an early FJ-80 for around 10K.

i wish i knew why lc's cost so damn much. all it ever seemed to be to me is a jeep frame with toyota guts.

but then again, the going price i've seen for a truck like mine is typically 2000-3500 for one in decent shape; i paid $650

there's tons of them up here. Even diesels. Too bad you're so far away, especially with the exchange.

I can't believe you said H**p and 40 in the same sentence.

Be completely aware of the rust. You know the body is going to rust, but severe frame rust is a sure death to 40's. Most particularly the ones produced after 75, I think. The quality of steel was reduced and so was the amount used in each vehicle.

Oh, and why they cost so much.....my 71 Fj40 has had one head job in its life, just now because #4 had hairline cracks. I think the odometer quit working when Fred Fintstone owned it when it had over 200k. It was rusted to hell and back, twice. The leaf springs were flat. No air conditioning. No radio. The whole friggin' truck rattled to the point I thought I had Parkinsons.

BUT, the rig started up every time and took me to work and home again, 86 miles round trip every day if I went nowhere else.
Problems = none! Doubts = none! Concerns = none! Just go!

I have since restored it to where its "pretty" again!

Thanks SOOOOO much guys, as always you never let me down. We shall se how practical a 40 could be for me, my dad and have always wanted a project vehical, and we have ALWAYS owned Toyotas so I think that a 40 wuld mke one hell of a bonding experiance. Thanks again.

***mgspann, you need tojoin the 4ROC NC Chapter, a bunch of the members just got back from a meet and run down in Uwharrie. Drop me or Prolax013 a PM if you have any questions.

Keep looking for the FJ40. You can find them all over. I have bought 4 of them in my area all for much less than $8000. Granted, they all have needed some work, but that is the whole point. The most I have paid for one of mine was $3000. Just keep looking!

There is a very nice one here in Oklahoma City.
It has about a 5 inch lift, 35's rebuilt front and rear end with a ARB air locker out back. It has a soft top, hard top, and bikini top. Winch, trail lights, real nice front seats. It's powered by a chevy 350 with a turbo tranny.
It runs pretty good, little touchy on the brakes tho'.

Dudes asking $10,000. down from $12,000.
Dont' know what you are wanting to pay, but it sure is a nice truck.
Let me know if you want more info.
