Hi yall. I am kinda new to this forum and I was wondering why I don't see or hear anything about the Landcruiser 70 series. You guy's don't have em over there?
Here's a pic of how they look. Took it this weekend after fitting a intercooler to the 2.5TD. It is standard equiped with coils all around, solid axles with 8" diffs (lockers optional), R type gearbox (V6) and pickup diesel engines.
I bet he never used it off road looking at the tyres.

are those the same as the land cruiser II series....i saw some that looked like that when i was in africa

 

Yep, they are the same. The come in a various models and bodystyles, form wimpy style to brutal style. They are still availabel new and still popular over in Europe. Thet seem to be quit indestructabel. I have to admit that underneath it's beefier than a pick-up. Even the gears in the gearbox are at least 1/3 larger than the pickup style gearbox.
I put one of those gearboxes in my Hilux and never had a faillure in many years of offroading with 33's.
I think most of them are quit ugly though. Ill stick with my '90 4Runner.

 

It was also called the Landcruiser Prado on the late ones before the new Shape Prado / Colorado came in.

Yeah, they were available in Canada.

Toyota is weird, marketing the 70 series in Canada, but not the 80 series.

But I've never seen one that isn't nearly completely rusted away.

 

I really like the 70s series, but they are pretty rare around here. Most use 24v electrical. Here is a semi-local place that sells imported japanese 70s

Can you get a 70 series in left hand drive? I bet I could bring one into Mexico from Ecuador or Costa rica.

 

Yup, they were available in south america. i'd be concerned with the vehicle's maintenance history though. In Japan, I've heard all vehicles 3 years and older must go through an inspection every second year or something like that. Therefore, buying from Japan is much safer especially if you are buying the truck sight unseen. Also, I think 1985 is the only year that the 70s used 12V electrical (in Canada anyways).
