Question Differential Locks?

Anyone ever installed diff. locks in thier Landcruiser? I have an '89 and was wondering what's involved. As far as I can tell it comes standard in some models but not all?

Any information will be appreciated.

are you talking about a locker for the differntail? some of the crusiers had them stock some didnt... it isnt a very hard process... depends on what you are trying to acomplish though, do you wnat a selectable locker? a limited slip, or any automatic locker?

Selectable

Yeah, I want to install a selectable locker.

I guess I'm interested in experiences with different manufactures pro's/ con's and just what's involved if I decided to go ahead with it.

Cute kid by the way.

oh selectable locker... thats gets tricky then... not sure how the landcrusiers are setup, might want to look into the e locker or the ARB which is an air activated locker, needing some kind of on board air source....

are you sure you want a selectabe locker and not an automatic locker? do you know what the differences are between the 2?

89 LC, so it is probably a 60/62??? The 80s could be oredered with elockers front and rear. The 100s could be ordered with rear elocker initially, but later only ATRAC.

As far as I know ARB airlockers are the way to go for LCs. Fully selectable.

You probably want to go to ih8mud.com Lots of cruiserheads there. They will be able to help you out with lots of experience and info on LCs. What works and doesn't, etc.

Thanks for the info...yeah looking at the ih8mud.com site it looks like ARB lockers are pretty much the only way to go.

Thanks again!

If the solid front axle in your 62 takes an 8" 3rd, you can order 3rds already setup from Marlin with either an ARB or Toyota E-Locker. The ARB requires an air source as mentioned above (good to have air for tires too), the E-Locker requires some wiring. A hot ticket for the front is a hi-pinion 3rd with either of these lockers also.

The FJ62 uses the large (LC) diff on both the front and rear. Lots of work to swap in an E-locker. ARB is easier. Wish I could afford one or two.
