You would be surprised! The stock setup used plastic bushings AND plastic links, and was only a 3 link (well, three mounting points on the axles, but the upper one was in the shape of a "Y" and it had two mounts on the chassis). It was SUPER floppy and had a lot of slop. It would get the job done, but I just didn't like it... The links I made, although the end joints have a body made out of plastic, the actual ball that snaps into them and has the mounting bolt passing through it is metal. The metal ball inside the plastic fitting moves a TON smoother, is obviously going to be stronger, and they take ALL of the sloppy (side to side) movement out of the axle. On top of that, the steel links wont flex or bend around under force like a wet noodle like the plastic ones will.

The setup didn't really increase the overall suspension movement of the stock setup, but it improved other areas. If I were to have installed these new shocks on the old link setup, it would have just as much flex as it does with my home made steel links, but there would still be a ton of unwanted axle "floppyness"

looks good bleeder - how are the tires after cutting them? i just weighted my fronts and it really helped.

 

the bite on the tires is a night and day difference now when turning and cutting into a climb! they really do grab better than the stock cut. plus the tread just looks mean

yeah the bigger ones have a bit more weight to them and crawl a little more realistically. I think you'd be pretty happy with it. I'm an electronic tinkerer myself, so I'm soldering up some strands of LED's to make rock lights on mine I actually just got done soldering in some headlight LED's

haha! Yea if i can find that first gen im buying it.but im not doing anything special to it just the running truck and thats it .my son should be happy with that.

Careful Robert...these RCs add up quick. I haven't done much to mine and so far i haven't broken anything YET, but I'm probably getting close (tranny clicking) - and the next set of upgrades (so I DON'T break stuff) to metal drivetrain and steering is probably going to double my investment.

I KNEW your son would start pestering you for one i dunno how much you care if it's brand new, but I might suggest trying to find a used one on CL that has already been upgraded and possibly comes with extra parts. Way I see it now is that it's going to look scratched and abused after the first week you own it, so it doesn't really make a difference; except the used one has probably been upgraded thus saving $ for parts that you will eventually purchase. Once upgraded these things seem fairly indestructible.

if I'm just crawling and taking it easy on the throttle, one battery pack can last over an hour! and the charger I have can plug into the 12v outlet in my truck, and the battery only takes 45 minutes to charge, so I can literally go ALL DAY LONG, so long as nothing brakes on the truck


btw, those photos were taken down in Orlando! where the boat ramp is in Sanford, where i4 and 17-92 meet. they meet down there pretty much every Sunday. I was in town for my father's b-day party, so it worked out perfect
