So I am gonna prerun my little truck. Should i look for a new long travel kit or should a i get a used total choas kit?

 

if you are on a budget and have a line on a used kit that is in good shape, go that route. if money isnt a factor, go new.
if you do buy used, make sure to budget in new uniballs and hiems and bushings if they are loose. it would suck to install everything only to have to take it back off because something is worn out.
just remember, you will still have to buy shocks and shock hoops for the front because the stock ones will not work.

it will take some hunting and waiting for one to come up but check race-dezert and dezertrangers classifieds and keep an eye out on CL too. i have scored my whole setup from RDC and DR.

you just have to be careful because there has been a guy scamming people out of a lot of money on there but he has pretty much just been doing it with shocks. so unless i could go pick it up in person, i dont think i would send someone money.
also DO NOT buy a kit from zip locke. i know it sounds odd but thats the guys name. he makes crap kits that dont cycle very good at all.

so what kind of shocks should i look for.

 

it depends...
option A: run a single 8'' or 10'' stroke 2.5 king, fox, sway a way, bilstein, or foa coilover. then you will need to buy coil springs and do shock hoops.
option B: upgrade the torsion bars to sway a ways (because stock ones will be soft) and run a single 8'' or 10'' 2.5 king, fox, sway a way, bilstein, or foa bypass. again though, you will have to do shock hoops.
option C: upgrade the torsion bars and run dual 8'' or 10'' 2.0 king, fox, sway a way, bilstein, foa, or just about any other shock with the TC dual shock tower kit.
it all depends on how much you want to spend and how far you want to take the truck.
dont forget about the back end too. you will want to upgrade the leafs and shocks at a minimum, otherwise it will not keep up with the front and can put you into a bad situation real quick.

 

Ok, I am really thinking about going coilovers. What kind of spring rates are good on these trucks, its a 2wd v6.

 

i have single rate 14'' long 400# springs on my truck and its a little too much spring. i could probably go to 350#. this is on a 8'' shock.
total chaos told me to run a 400 over 500 spring setup if i went to dual rate. id say with the extra weight of your truck a 400# or 450# single rate would probably be good. or give total chaos a call and ask them. they tend to be pretty helpful when you got questions.

 

what type of leaf springs would help the best.

 

deaver f67 are the norm and what i run. i started with the f55s and quickly found out that they are worthless and should be avoided at all costs. a lot of people are starting to use the chevy 62s and they seem to work ok for a cheap junkyard pack and when setup right, give a decent amount of travel. i know there is at least one thread somewhere on this forum about doing that swap.
