I have towed with every 22r that ive owned and Ive never been let down. Dont expect to go jamin' up steep grades in 4th gear.
Use common sense... If you dont have any of that then make sure you read and follow the weight ratings. Anyways, stopping power is MUCH more important then most people think.

I couldn't get out of 3rd gear, and couldn't go over about 50 mph. I had to be very careful because my stopping distances were absurdly long.
I was incredibly stressed driving down to the wood yard.
I have no trouble towing my 2 waverunners, my 5x8 utility trailer with my mowers, or mulch or scrap or what not. I don't think any of that weighs more than 2500 lbs or so.

I wish I knew the weight of the trailer load of wood from a tree we cut down. It was a 12' trailer, single axle. It was definitely overloaded, must have been 4000 lbs or more. My rear leaves were almost completely flat and the trailer axle was starting to bow.

Maybe get some slotted rotors. I'd be stopping like a boss.

What are some brake upgrades that can be done without too much hassle? Any larger toyota brakes that easily swap over? I'm assuming I'd need to upgrade the wheels to account for the new offset.

I would think you could do the master cylinder upgrade, I'd have to search for the details.

I can pick it up and move it around by hand with all my tools in it... I need to put it on the scale.
