I tried to catch the carpenter today before he left, as he was parked with his work van not to far from the FJ.

I was going to have him measure the extension box to go behind the cargobox, then he could have got started on it and got me the slides to let the fridge slide out.

Oh well, next week

Hmmm, I have bigger decisions now, what kind of ice cream bars to feed the gang during the Greenwater run coming up...

Or I could freeze some water balloons and we could have one heck of a water balloon fight.

 

I came to work today with the fridge in the back and turned on so the carpenter can get an idea on how to do the slides.

It looks like that huge honker is going to interfere with me seeing out the back window.
Not!

It actually sits lower than the spare tire does on the outside.
It does not interfere with me seeing out the rear window at all.

So all of you with FJs, 4Runners, ect, do not worry about not being able to see out the rear.
Now if your cargobox is higher than mine, then it may be a problem.

Rear windows are so over rated though.
I hardly use mine at all.

 

Are those Genuine FJ Cruiser Leather Gloves next the cargo box?

The West Coast FJ Cruiser Trail Team gave them to me a week before I picked up the FJ at the event that Rob got started here.

 

I knew it.they are pretty good glove. too warm for summer but nice to have to when you need them.

 

Fixing to go get me a 12V outlet for my ARB fridge in the 85...is that one plenty deep so the connection doesn't rattle loose?

The ARB f/f performed like a champ on the trip to Disney World.

I have me a nice set of those bling bling gloves too.

 

Hi Brian, glad the fridge worked out, they are very efficient units.

The sockets I have are very deep, the plug will not pull out of it.

 

Hey Corey, im curious, has your Avic ever lost signal and defaulted to somewhere in NY? Mines done it a few times and i dont know if im having a signal problem or whats going on

Where do you have your antenna?

Mine gets about all of the satelite connections except for one.
It either picks up 6 or 8, I forget.

Mine has helped me quite a few times now, I am lousy with directions.

The only thing I do not like about it is I have to hit the on screen button each time I fire up the rig if I want to view the map, it gives you that safety statement.

 

hmmm thats weird. My antenna is right on top of my roof witch should give it optimum reception. Maybe ill take it in and have it looket at. And yea that safety screen is annoying but all nav systems have it i belive

 

Did the vent visors alleviate any of the freeway window down air blower into your ear drum? Does anyone else get that, air blowing directly into your ear with the window down??

 

Yes it did.
Before it felt like wind tunnel in the cockpit.

I enjoy having the windows down on a hot day when I do not feel like running the air-con, and it eliminated a lot of that cross buffering wind.

 

I really dig the stock 17" factory alloys, so much I wanted to buy a 2nd set and move up to a 285x70x17" tires, about the same as a 33" tire.

My current Dick Cepek Mountaincat muds are 265x70x17", and they look great, but a little out of place with the OME 3" lift.

With all of my past vehicles I have owned I have always ran two sets of tires.
One set for fall through spring (winter setup) and the best setup for spring through fall.

I have been wanting to get the same tires in the 285 size, but did not want to pay Toyota $340 a piece for the factory alloys.
Great wheel, only factory wheel I have every truly liked that much on any rig.
A little to steep at that price, although I have a few sources to get some used ones.

At the Greenwater run earlier in July I saw an FJ Cruiser (owned by member noworries) with some nice black wheels that made me again want to think about getting an aftermarket wheel.
With some research and getting a hold of the owner gain, I found out they are the Pro Comp 7089s.

He is running a RevTek 3" lift and 295 size tires with no rubbing, so this tells me that Pro Comp did their math and is overing these with zero offset and able to clear the large calipers of the FJ Cruiser.

I was able to score these wheels for $129 a piece from 4WD Parts who owns Pro Comp wheels/tires.
Les Schwab would have had to buy them for $209 a piece since they are a direct competitor of 4WD Parts Warehouse.

Les Schwab Tires recently added the Dick Cepek Mountaincats to their website.

You will not find these on the Dick Cepek website, as they are exclusively made for Les Schwab Tires.
Made in the same molds as other Dick Cepek tires with the familiar staggered DC impression on the sidewall.

These tires are also made by Cooper, and are pretty similair in design to the Cooper Discoverer STT tire.

They showed me out in the bay when we turned the wheels/tires lock to lock that they cleared the body mounts and also the calipers.
In getting new wheels for your FJ Cruiser, the important thing to pay attention to is the off set.
Mine are zero.

He asked me if I wanted to step up to a 295 since that is what noworries is running, but I stayed with the 285s.
They look great and 33" is big enough for me.

I did not notice any loss of power at all coming into work on the backway, and also going home on the freeway where I was able to put the throttle down some.

Went with black Gorilla small diameter Tuner lugnuts that take a special adapter/key to take them off with.

The new tires fill the wheel wells much better than the smaller ones.

Bob, these wheels I just got are cheaper than the Toyota black steelies which I was also looking for until I saw these a few weeks back.

 

Nice. It looks like the stock CV's and UJ's can take a bit of angle, too.

 

Yes, the angles are good.

Also, I came into work on a long stretch of road at 35, 40, and 45 MPH in a few places, and the stock speedo is dead on with my navigations GPS speedo.

Stepping up to a 285 does not seem to change the speedo reading at all for MPH.

I am sure it will for miles accumulated, but not for actual MPH.
