Talking Nutsbrett's 99' Tacoma Crawler/River rat

Ive decided to start a buildup thread after reading through all of these great other ones! Im not as experienced as the other gurus that post here but ill get there hopefully!

I have a 1999 Tacoma, here are some specs
-5 Speed
-V6
-Rear lockers
-7' lift, 4' suspention, 3' body
-Geared down to 4:11
-Straight axel in back only, IFS in the front
-Campershell, for you know what!........ Campin!
-Warn 9.5ti winch
-2 PIAA front facing lights
-4 Hella lights 2 facing back for reverse lights w/manual switch, 2 facing down for my under carriage lights
-Rock Sliders
-CB, PA, and police scanner
-Onboard air lines, just missing the compressor or Co2 tank
-ARB Snorkel
-35x12.5x17 Cooper Discoverer STT ( http://us.coopertire.com/Tires/Light...VERER-STT.aspx)
-Roof Rack with shovel & Hi Jack mounted on sides and spare tire on top (Until i finish my custom bumper)
-Unity police spotlight
-Currently has ˟˟˟˟ty leafsprings, getting new ones soon!

Before i started this, i had done alot of things without taking pictures i do have a few though. Ill try to put them in order of them happening as best i can!

First was painting the rims and rock sliders!

Before

its the same picture yeah, i Photoshopped the results, and it looks exactly the same as a real picture of it, and i like the comparison of to same pictures

After

Next!

Two days after i painted the rims i decided to go in the river behind my house (Salinas River CA) There is a spot where a stream lets out into the main river, and the dirt from the stream mixed with the sand of the river makes a pretty good sinking sand like terrain, and i was crossing part of the let off, and i realized it was the bad sand! so i stopped, i wasn't stuck at all, but i had my friend winch me, i wanted him to winch be backwards the way i came, but he decided to winch me across the stream let off, so its going fine until i start to dig in and sink, and if you have an IFS you know that its just a giant wall to push against sand, so i got stuck and sunk down to my frame! took about two hours of digging and winching tries. once out my newly painted rims were ghetto sand blasted by the river sand! and back to silver, but since i rattllecanned them it was no big deal. But the thing that was a big deal was the sand in my front break hubs! I could make a childs sand box with that sand!

and the sand that came out with the cover

Then later i mounted my Hi Jack on my roof rack, i dont have a picture of the shovel, but you all know what one of those looks like!

Water proofed my airbox so it breathes strictly from the snorkel, its ghetto, i know!

And just recently i broke my swaybar mount and had to weld it

ouch!

Not the most pretty 3 pass weld, but it works perfectly!

Painted it with rustoleum to prevent rust, red was the only color i had, and well it matched!

lookin good!

Lights are nothing special

The most recent is that i made my doors removable, i just put my jeeps door on for a trip i made over a weekend, i like it! Im looking for doors to cut down into half doors! And there is the shovel!

and currently i am fabrication a rear bumper! its going to look different then the design below because ive changed my plans after i designed it in 3d

it will be able to lift up with the hinge to access the truck bed, and wont have the bottom two rectangles, and the tubing design wont be rounded but cut at 45's to make a sharp corner

I am going to post whenever i have progress with the truck! I am going to take pictures of the bumper that is almost finished and post them soon!

I hope you guys will enjoy this as much as i will! you might not because its my truck being built up!

So keep posted!

i was modeling it after a picture i found on here, this one https://www.yotatech.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=76
I like the red, i think it looks good how it stands out

And i got pictures of my bumper that is half way finished!

The top upsidedown "Y" is just set on and tacked together with the rod to hold them in place. Its 3x3 tubing, it was bigger than i expected when it was delivered, but im not one to waste metal, so i just went with it
Things to do:
-weld tire support on
-weld brackets to the bumper to mount
-cut round tubing for the side bed protectors
-weld them on
- mount hydraulic to assist opening it
-then paint and mount!

Ive started work on my bumper today! Its coming along nicely so far, ive had to do some on site changes to the design, i used the stock mounts for the old bumper instead of making new ones, they will work just as good, and i am thinking that im not going to make the angled tire holder, i might just make it mount it like a bronchos, right on the tailgate or a little higher, im not sure, ill see tomorrow when i make that part

The old and the new

Mounted for a legal drive home w/ghetto license plate holder

How to open the tailgate w/beautiful art work courtesy of my friend logan

And my snorkel just for fun Ive had three people ask me if its a Periscope? Oh some people now a days

Progress on the bumper! Made the tire rack and mounted it!

The tiedowns are temporary until i make a locking mechanism that will hold the tire down, i cant access my bed for now though, but i grabbed my back up camera out of it before i put the tire on so ill mount that this up coming weekend!

Things to do:
-Mount license plate and camera better
-Mount the side bed protectors
-Paint Paint and Paint!
-Make locking mechanism
-Get a hydraulic push to assist the opening
-remount the tow hitch
-Remount the lights to be flush with the bumper
-Other stuff i forget :p

And i am not to sure on how legal it is on how my bumper blocks a part of my brake lights, but i wont change it until i get pulled over for it so im good!

How far it sits off the back window
Need to make brackets so it wont rattle when i hit bumps, probably add some rubber pads

And how she looks, kinda like a rabbit

And i found the 4Runner that i based the bumper off of a little, i found pictures on Google, and now i stumbled upon the thread as i was posting this

That spare tire mount is WAY too tall.
You should drop it down to tailgate height.
Just my opinion.

Thank you for your input! and yeah, i had thoughts of mounting it at tailgate height like a bronco has. but i decided to just make it tall to see how it looks, and rather make it too tall than too short at first, i dunno, im gonna keep it like that for now and see how i like it

I based part of the design of this guys bumper

Built a skidplate for the ifs, not completely finished with it yet, needs more support, and im going to paint it with a stencil that i'll make soon for better looks

the start

Top support bar

Painted red and white for now (Uglier than i thought it was gonna be ), going to change it to black and white

our seceret i picked it up on the side of the road cause someone had crashed into the pole and completely broke it from the ground, the sign would have been tossed in the trash by the city, so i just kept it so it could remain "on the road", and i dont like the bikers in my area anyways

its flimsy yes, but there will be support to strengthen it

and happy 143,000th birthday! You dont look a mile over 50,000!

Made my tire holder clamp/locking mechanism! and now i can open my truck bed and get my tools that have been in there for a week or so

I need to wash it, but the dust and dirt covers up the scratches! so imma keep it for a bit longer

Decent clearance

And my leaf spring situation is getting a little worse, i went crawling in my buddys creek on his ranck, and my leafs got a bit worse than before, the ones i ordered are out of stock and will take a few weeks they said, so i am not gonna do anything to rough on it and take it easy til i get them in

Lookin good I would have to agree the tire is mounted to high I would center it 2/3 up the tail gate and keep the angle in toward the shell

Took my campershell off and my bedliner, i lowered the tire down more today, i dont have any pictures of it yet though

I am going to mount my roofrack onto my cab, it doesnt fir just resting on it, so i am currently fabricating a cage that extends from my rock sliders up to my cab to provide a support for my rack (Which i also dont hav epicures yet, ill take some tomorrow when im finishing it up)

Well i have been busy with work, but i have a big update!
Instead of having bed guards on my bumper i decided to make an exo cage to support my roofrack over my cab. I used about 40 ft of tubing and about a foot of flat bar :p I made it in about two and a half of solid work days. Unfortunately the solid work part was so solid that i didnt have much time to take pictures, i do have some though

Went on a little fishing trip with the girlfriend

The last day i worked on it had heart break in it!
My window literally blew up because of the heat of the weld by it, i should have known it was gonna be bad for it, but i gotta learn by experience

I am going to add another bar lower so it will be a ladder to get up to the rack

I bought silverish grey paint for it, but it ended up looking like primer, so i decided to go ghetto urban camo

And painted my bumper black

And i just got my leaf springs and air tank today!!

I am going to put them on tomorrow and ill be sure to take pictures!

Stay posted!

Took me a while to get back to here, ive been working and been busy

Got the new leafs on though!

wire wheeled the ubolts and they look better

painted the u bolts white and the block black

Painted my skidplate with the Team Yota club logo that my group started

put a back up cam facing my rear axle

River 4 wheelin trip with my friend and his yota

Almost blew up my clutch in a mud pit, it got better, but still sucks so i am going to have it replaced soon

But on another note, i got a buggy frame and am going to be building it up!
