MillerPKA's 1997 4Runner Build-Up Thread
Here's a quick overview of what's been going on with the truck the last few months, nothing too serious but its about to get exciting, 2 newest additions went on today! I'll use this to update what happens from here on out
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f79/...97-sr5-115238/
Short recap from the last 6 months.
Started with graphite 2 tone with current setup minus a few things.
August - Changed graphite 2 tone to army tan, borrowed the hood for the picture haha. Added Wet Okoles for the front seats and got taillights from an 02.
October - Added Gobi ladder
December - Back to black
January - Gobi Stealth Rack
Decals removed and windows spot free
Today - Began suspension and framework treatment with the front and ifs. We will finish all the frame, wheel wells and rear axle this weekend.
I got the Bushwackers and sport hood on a couple hours ago about to go out and break down the clear coat and build her back up.
I left the rear bumper caps off do you think I should put them on? I'll get some comparisons in a little bit. Also thinking about blacking out the silver grille inside the scoop, let me know what you think.
Edit: Took the badges off the rear and gave them a coat of some Duplicolor Graphite I had left over

This is for everything that's to come, and to some paint is part of a build...just so happens that its been happening a lot recently. You don't consider sport hood gobi rack and bushwackers part of a build either? Sorry to disappoint you buddy

And you I don't. You guys should shack up in a thread about your beater, don't you have better things to do than pick on people's threads that are bigger than you?

alright thought i'd throw some pictures up of todays progress. finish coating the whole frame and wheel wells, axle, headers, exhaust and muffler. and thanks to Meguiar's Ultimate Compound broke the oxidation and water spots completely down to match with the new paint of the flares and sport hood. its the best the paint has ever looked. tomorrow we're finishing it up with the wax but i gotta head out now

I'm holding off on skids and sliders while I finish my degree. All that's going on with the engine swap and sfa after graduation.
I agree with the flares they do wonders, gotta fix one side though hit the passenger front fender wheeling a few years back and its inconsistent somewhere underneath...it leaves a .5" gap on some of the flare its annoying the hell out of me.
I decided to paint the rims today. I ditched the Duplicolor idea last minute and went with more Krylon Hammer Tough...this time in flat black. These rims came out great considering the amount of rock rash on them. Thanks to a deck of cards and 3 cans of this stuff I got it done in 3 hours. Now the exterior is almost done

Gotta give the Jeep guys credit for giving me the deck of cards trick, worked like a charm

Your truck is looking really good man. I'd love to treat the chassis to the same kind of protection but feel like it's incredibly time consuming, which wouldn't mix well with my busy work/school schedule as of late, but I definitely like the outcome. Also, cool idea with the cards for painting the wheels. How much prep work did you put into sanding them before painting them? I want to get some dark rims but I'll only have one chance to do it right with the stock rims I have on now.
