Ok so Ive been on the road and couldnt actually look at my or any other runner, have you ever tried to design somthing with out being able to look at it? I know how I want this bumper to look but Ive struggled with how to mount the durn thing Im not opposed to welding it solid except Im afraid I may need to be able to remove it for some reason. So as soon as I got home I had to go out and do some measuring [at 4 a.m. the wife thinks Im nuts, shes probly right] any way I think I have an Idea hopeing to have alittle time to work on it.

I saw a really nice bumper build using the hitch as part of the bumper here on Yotatech several years back. I thought it was really cool. It was plate but if you can find the thread you might get some thoughts.

MossyRocks!

'Cept the best pics are gone.
Like I mentioned, plate but built off a hitch. He later made a really nice front bumper too. Actually, he did a bunch of really interesting things to his 4Runner, mine's too much of a grocery/kid getter to follow suit even if I had the talent to do so, but it was fun to watch.

I was thinking it was someone else's bumper so there may be another thread around here somewhere.
I just remembered a cool front receiver bumper someone did, I gotta go find that thread....

I really need to learn to screw up some metal...

Still can't wait to see what you come up with.

That front end is giving you a workout. You are going to be a pro on it soon. You will get it.

hey Terry, Jerry, thanks for dropping by.
well no progress between work and life I just haven't had time. the front diff is turning out to be a bigger pita than I anticipated looks like a complete 3rd from east coast gear is in order, I will pro Just stay with the 4.30 gears as I can't afford to regear at this time so its a matter of scraping some $$$$ together on that.
I did manage to pick up some marerials for the bumper 1/4 inch plate and a few other things.
hab I checked out mossy oaks bumper again the idea would work great if my runner had the OEM hitch but I'm stuck with a cheap draw tight with a tubular cross bar so I cut it apart and will be reuseing what I can from it.
hoping to get back to it ASAP. thanks for checking in.

Ok finally a more posative update, I finnaly got time to pull the front diff and as I suspected the outer gears and the side gears are shot I never had a diff fail like this before, I striped side gears broke teeth off cracked cariers etc but this one has similar damage to both outer gears the spiders Im assumeing were damage from metal floating around and through them. the drivers side outer gear was not even contacting the spiders anymore. just dont understand breaking a shaft and this kind of a failure of the internals at the same time hmm. tried to get some pics but couldnt get them to turn out. anyway confermed that it does have 4.30 gears and with the help off another YT member "thanks terry" I was able to run down a used diff so as soon as I get home I will be getting it back together.
spent some time working on the bumper as well no big progress yet but gaining, I will be useing part of the receiver hitch as my mounts so trying to get that cleaned up as well as some other used steel I have laying around, the draw back to repurposing metal is you have to spend time cleaning it up. TN has a stricked bumper law so I wont be able to drive this ting till the bumper is done so look for big progress soon, its been broke for almost 2 months ugh and I really miss driveing it.
thanks for checking in.

All of the "practice" you had on the old assembly, this ought to be a breeze for you by now. I feel it will go great for you. Will you need an alighnment after installing the new gear? I dont know, just thought I would mention it. Hope you get home soon to get it going.

I just got a laugh out of your last comment. Sounds like changing a diff is now on the level of changing a flat tire, but that is a good thing. I know you were having a hard time with it at the first time.lol
