Your thoughts on the current gen Xterra?

Man, I truly hate automatics. The way they downshift lazily when you step on it, the way you're not in the correct gear exiting a turn unless you mash the gas, then by the time it downshifts and finally accelerates, it's too late...
I can't stand them. I really can't. They're no fun. I'd rather clutch in/out during rush hour traffic just to be able to select my own gear myself.
My Pathfinder was an automatic, and when I bought my 4Runner in manual (1st manual vehicle), I was like ?whoa, what have I been missing!!!?.
An automatic :
- Guzzles more gas (objective)
- Costs more when you buy the vehicle (objective)
- Slows the vehicle down (objective)
- Is boring (subjective)
Why would I want that?

If they indeed come with a manual trans, I'll look into that.
The only problem is that the off road package seems to be available only on the access cab model, and I really want that. Besides, the Tacoma is quite big, and I really prefer an SUV. But if It comes down to Xterra vs. Taco in a couple years time, I might get the pick up.

Rumor has it that the next gen Tacoma is going back to the smaller size.
I do not know what year this will take place, but I did hear it.
Only time will tell if it is true.
Many would like for Toyota to get back to their roots of having the smaller trucks like they use to instead of getting bigger.
The Tundra can fill that niche...

Problem solved....just wait until toyota creates something that fits your criteria. I'm sure your runner can easily make 300k, mine made atleast that before I got rid of it and if it wasn't for me getting an 04 taco, I would have regretted it.

Damn... I don't even want to imagine how high that sucker is... A bone stock one parked next to me and it's rear rack was as high as my rear...

Yeah.. I'm wheeling with him this weekend so check my site for pics of it in action next week. I can't wait to see it in person.

so just a little different perspective--The nissan VQ series of engine is awsome--always and still is one of the greatest V-6's out there. Nissan makes a great drive train--true. Interior and steering compared to Yota--Nissan has recirculating ball and Yota Rack and Pinion (last i checked); interior get a C+ Yota B+/A-. My 97 regulary makes turns most small cars cant--nissan--they have been hit and miss in that department.
BUT HERE IS THE BIG KICKER--Vehicles are a depreciating Asset--that means IT IS NOT AN INVESTMENT BUT A MONEY HOLE. I was thinking about getting another Yota (FJ) when i started thinking about it and thought--Henry the 4Rnr is paid off and if you had to put $10k into it (upgrades, goodies, even a new motor) it would make it one hell of a truck and save you $20k-25k in costs.
So put in a new Downey clutch month ago (~$600), just got LSD rear (True Trac) ~1000, Tundra Upgrade ~$500....etc...you get the picture. What i am getting at here is that you can do whole hella lot for $10-15K and have a truck that is superior to stock.
i say keep the truck and make it great--get a beater to drive for awhile--save some money and do alot of upgrades at once--saves both time and money in the long run. Only problem with the beater is that dates might question whether they want to be seen in it LOL.
Thats they way i see it--

Seriously, very fun car. What year?

Really would like the one with the S54 motor i believe--315 ponies--2002. i know they are collector items and i like collecting and taking care of one--off items. price..price..price though may drive me to an older version

If you want rare get an S54 M Coupe. Only something like 700 of those in the states.

i have been leaning towards the S54--just need to let the purse strings breath a little. The other idea is to get a new G-35 sedan....but cool/collectors factor--
Anyways--Hugo--i will be going through the "Dont buy new and Improve Whatcha Got" and as always will fill you in on how it goes and the results.
Next thing is to find some wheelers out here in Austin (surrounding area) and places to go wheeling

Just know this : both are very fun cars, with the S54 being more of a high speed beas, since the torque difference isn't enough to make THAT much of a difference up to 45 mph or so.
The S52 engine is also VERY mod friendly, and the S54 is not, as it is sort of maxxed out from the factory.
I guess you could find an S52 car and slap on a twin screw on it for roughly the same price, or lower than, an S54 vehicle, with more power on tap.
