i have a flatbed on my 87 pickup, since i added the bed with a wood floor, my truck turned into more of a slug than what it was before...my question is--i have 1 inch thick red oak boards as the floor, the area is about 4x6 (just rounding, to lazy to go measure) from experience, does anyone know how much lighter 1/8 thick metal diamond plate would be compared to the wood? alot lighter, equal, or heavier?

Red oak weighs 45 lbs per cubic foot. That's 3.75 lbs per sq. ft.

1/8" thick steel plate ranges from 5.0-5.15 lbs per sq. ft. depending on the type of steel.

(American) Red Wood would weigh roughly 90 lbs.

1/8" steel plate would weigh roughly 121.2 lbs.

Not to mention the astronomical price of steel.

I have a piece of (roughly) 5'x5' 16 guage steel in my flatbed and it weighs at least 50 lbs. My whole bed weighs about 200 lbs.

If you want diamond plate, go with aluminum. It's pretty light, but also pretty expensive.
