Please help!!!

I own a 3rd generation, 98 4runner SR5, 3.4L 5spd, 130K.

Yesterday it was extremely difficult to shift into any gear. After it warmed up, I was able to shift but it was still rough.

Also noticed that the clutch pedal was not working normal. It seemed to have lost pressure.

I have spent some time looking and found some possible problems. Can anybody help me narrow the problem down.

Warped fly wheel?
Bad Bushings or slave?
Master cylinder needs to be replaced?
Broken/cracked clutch pedal mount?

Just look near the pedals for the mounting point (which is a common problem, from what I gather).
Check slave/master cylinder fluid levels. Make sure they're at the max line (Toyota's finicky like that).
Could be worn clutch?

Mostly just do the visual inspection first.

sounds like fluid level issue..possibly a blown seal.

Replace BOTH the clutch slave cylinder on the bell housing AND the clutch master cylinder. Why, the slave is likely leaking internally and gone. The other is just around the corner from going bad too. I use a vacuum pump to bleed the two and works great. Gonna cost you about $100 at the local parts store. I do not advise buying rebuilt parts but that is my opinion from past experiences. You will screw up you transmission syncros if you don't fix it NOW.

I'm going to replace the master/slave cylinder this Friday. Wish me luck. I hope that is all that is wrong.

I replaced the master/slave cylinder but ran into trouble when replacing transmission fluid. I stripped the bolt on the rear axle. I'm going to have to wait until this next weekend to remove it. I have a friend who is going to weld a bolt onto the stripped bolt so that we can get it out. I was told to use PB blaster to help loosen it.

your transmission fluid isn't in the rear axle

there are two big bolts on the transmission, one for fill and one for drain

i think the drain is on the passenger side and the fill on the drivers side. I want to say they are 24mm bolts but i might be off a few on that

Make sure to loosen the fill bolt first!

It would suck to drain the fluid out and not be able to refill it.

PB helps, and so does a six-sided socket.

Just curious (as a new taco owner myself) but do the r150f's have the shifter seat bushing and socket problems that the g52/54 had? Mine's a little tough to get into 1st sometimes as well, though the tranny and clutch feel great, but it definitely felt like the bushing issue that plagued my other older p/u's...

was the clutch still loose? did you properly bleed the master/slave cylinder? if its still loose, try pumping the clutch to build pressure and see if that helps (if youre out on the road and its giving you trouble, its only a temp fix). you may have a leak somewhere.
