Paint job on bumper for 2000 4runner
Hi All, I am new to this forum. Please be patient, as i am a new user. I have a 2000 4runner. Recently in Kamloops BC I was in a minor bumper collision. Winter driving with bad tires = $$$ spent. I went through the insurance company (ICBC = $$$ spent). Insurance co. had no problem fixing the bumper and side panel, obviously. The point of this thread is my question regarding paint job to the year 2000 bumper. REc'd the 4runner back from the toyota dealer/garage. Everything was fine when i drove it home. now its a month later. Finally its sunny and Ofcourse I washed the car. Now i noticed that the bumper has chip marks and paint that is rough and with tiny bumps, like its been painted over sand or dirt. I questioned the paint job to the toyota garage and to ICBC. They say its normal and its wear and tear. My argument is it should be that bad. I understand for the chip marks, with rocks and road depri, winter driving, but the paint bumps. ICBC says b/c the bumper is metal the paint will not be the same as the OEM paint job. I understand but less then a month, wear and tear. I just want a second opinion from fellow 4runner, toyotal owner. Thank you in advance.

Man, ICBC will just try and pacify you. Im not too sure on what it looks like. Post up a pic for all the masses to see and you will get some good feedback on here.

sounds like a load of crap to me. cars are made of metal (for the most part) and paint sticks to them just fine. you can get a paint job that matches OEM no problem, on any kind of surface. i would complain. definitely look into any warranty for the paint job, any time i've had paintwork done they warrant their work for life. i bet they sent it for paint at some fly by night shop without a booth so it was cheaper, the paint job was flawed, and now they're trying to cover their butts. post some pics when you have a chance.

Sounds like you have the "orange peel" effect happening on your paint. Thats usually a sign that the surfaces that were painted were not prepared correctly. This was a frequent problem my old boss had with cars he bought from auction, flipped (paint job, engine work, body work, etc) and then sold. A quality paint job SHOULD last. Especially for more than a single year. I would definitely file a complaint with your insurance company. Good luck
