Windows hard to open

K also i have manual windows, and they are REALLY hard to open, especially when they are all the way up and you are rolling them up or down. Both sides are this way, what can i do about it? I tried lubing it some, but didnt seem to help. Somebody told me it had something to do with the regulator, but i dunno what to do, if i need a new one or not.

regulator for sure, i fix these problems all the time. after being hard like the way they are, afterwards what happens, they start to loosen up, and when they loosen up your window wont hold up. they roll down by themselves. so yea. nothing else, but regulator.

You fix them all the time? Can you hook me up with advice/parts? Do i need to replace the regulator? If so, how much, where, and what kind (if there is more than one kind)?

I have torn the guts out of doors before (not toyota doors, but the door from my honda), if all thats to it is tearing it out and putting the new one in, thats easy. What im trying to figure out is if i want to spend the money right now on the new manual regulators, because i plan on going to power options as soon as money permits. But i dunno, the windows are horrible to open right now... is there anything i can do to the regulator to fix it somewhat?

The DEALER? Whew ooh wee!!!! I can just imagine how much a complete window regulator costs at the stealership. They wanted $85... E-I-G-H-T-Y F-I-V-E D-O-L-L-A-R-S for a 4sp gear-shift knob on an '88 PU.

MorphiasX,

My windows are hard to roll down too. In fact, even when my truck was new, the windows never rolled up/down all that easily anyway. However, I still plan on taking out the regulators and cleaning them up with solvent to remove all the gunked-up grease on the tracks and rollers. Then, I'm going to lubricate them with some marine based waterproof grease. Hopefully, that'll make them a little easier to roll up/down. You might want to try doing that before you go replacing them.

If you happen to actually need new window regulators, there's a wrecking yard called "California Mini-Truck" in Montclair. You can probably find the power-window style regulators there as well. They usually have a large inventory of Toyota trucks in stock.

you could always spray some wd 40 down the channels that might help if the channels got old and crusty some times it sticks to the window so trying lubing them.
