Optima Yellow Top Battery Wiring

Yeah I've got mine on the ARB bracket. I figure it's easier to put the remote on (until I get a wireless remote, if I do).

So I just rerouted my battery setup. I've got a optima yellow top so I moved the stock wiring down to the side terminals and put all my accessories (lights, stereo, CB & winch) on the top terminals, as per the guy at optima's recommendation. The stock clamp is wired to the side terminals and grounded with factory ground. My question is; do I need to ground the negative on the top too? Also to disconnect power to the winch can I just remove the neg lead from the top terminal or do I need to remove both?

I have a pretty good understanding of basic wiring, however I don't know if the side and top termals of the battery are separate or part of the same circuit. If the tops are only supposed to be used for high amp/drain deep cycle connections (e.g. all accessories) then they must be isolated, however I did test the accesories hooked up the possitive top terminal with the side terminals both hooked up (and grounded). My lights (hooked up to the top terminals) worked. which makes me think that just gounding the side neg terminal only should ground the whole system properly. What to do, what to do?

(sorry for the rambly post...)

While you are at wiring up your winch I would upgrade your battery terminals and starter wiring and chassis grounds to 1 Gauge welding wire it's not that expensive to do.

I upgraded the chasis grounds top and bottom to 6 gauge which was the best I could find without making a special trip.

The bumper comes with a mounting bracket that puts it that way. It wouldn't fit otherwise. Also at that direction, the 4 heavy 2 guage wires that run down to the winch go right throught the hole...Just the way ARB designed the bumper to work with the winch.

I see how it works I had the same bracket that came with my ARB it just wouldn't work with the control box on my Ramsey.I just mounted mine behind the bumper.I just think it looks funny sideways. You would think Warn would offer a replacement cover that has the "W" facing the correct way(at an additional cost I'm sure).

Yeah I know. I thought about fabing a new bracket to put it on the same angle out a little further and oriented properly, but I'm not sure the wires will still reach and I definitly don't feel like pulling the bumper. I'll post the design if I do come up with something. Getting away from the grill would let some more air into the grill too.

Mike,

Searching the archives to figure out how to install a Warn M8000 winch in an ARB bumper and look what I found! Do you still have the roller fairlead? I need one.

Is it possible to rotate the clutch housing on a Warn M8000 by removing the allen head screws that hold the clutch housing to the main body of the winch? The clutch handle is currently 180 degrees opposite the mounting bolts and it looks like it needs to be 90 degrees to access the handle from the bottom of an ARB bumper.

The base of the winch bolts throught the front surface of the ARB bumper right?

EDIT Yes and yes! (It would have helped if I read the directions that came with the bumper before I posted)

Got my ARB bumper installed last night. Man are the directions that come with the ARB a piece of ˟˟˟˟˟! It took me at least an hour to figure out which of the mirad of bolts went where.

Today I'm Checking out the Warn website so I can get the winch installed. Do I need a 10" or 12" roller fairlead to fit an ARB winch bumper? Or does somebody have a part number so if I buy one off ebay I get the right thing.

Thanks.

12" I believe.... just measure the bolt holes in that flange thingy on the bumper. I wish I knew where my old one was, I'd send it to you for the cost of shipping. :-( Not the best paperweight if you know what I mean.
