Question Will dealer still fix 3.0 H.G.?

I've noticed a few posts lately with people talking about 3.0 head gasket replacement being done by the dealer. Are people just paying the dealer straight up for the work or is the Toyota service bulletin still valid? Is there a time restriction or milage restriction for service work?

Thanks

Correct me if i'm wrong anyone, but i believe they will still fix it as long as it has not been done before on that vehicle.

Yes, they will. If it's one of the units that quallifies.
Unlimited miles, unlimited owners. I hope to post my recent experience once it is all resolved.

Yeah that's kind of what most posts implied. Mostly just curious, I don't believe the first owner of my 4-Runner has done it yet and with 240K on mine I'm very impressed mine is still going strong. I have always been into the Jeep scene until I purchased my Runner a few months ago. This thing has so many miles and still runs and looks great. Is a real testament to the quality of Toyotas parts.

240K on a '90? Wow, thats impressive!

I would call your dealer, give them the VIN and they can tell you whether its been done or not.

Mine has been done and I'm runnin' strong!

Thanks Chih,

I've been reading that post too since the same topic is going on. The only concern I have is that lots of parts have to come off to get to the heads. Will the dealership try to pad the service by making you do the timing belt, water pump, injectors and other related parts? Seems like an easy way to get screwed

The Dealer can't MAKE you do anything extra. You may WANT to replace the timing belt, water pump and assorted pully bearings. Depends on your mileage. They shouldn't charge much more than 1 hour labour, because they are already into it that far anyway. It's good for you and good for them, so you may consider it.

I realize the dealer can't make me do anything I don't want but I've heard of so freaky things done, especially when it's a warranty thing. Had a friend that was going to have an engine rebuilt and the shops policy was installl new water related parts ie. radiator, hoses, belts and water pump or they will not give him any warrany. They would not take into account the condition of the exhisting parts, just replace with his new parts or no warranty.
