wheel spacers w/ trd fj rims?
I'm running the trd fj rims with 285/75/16. At full lock the tires rub the upper control arm. Is anyone running wheel spacers with these wheels?? If so, what size spacer?? Please post pics if you guys have them.

this is what i was worried about running newer yota rims with larger tires on old rigs, there is so much backspacing that it puts the tire inward, rubbing on things like the control arm. i think a 1 inch spacer would solve the problem though.

my 10.5 wide 33s rub my idler arm at full turn, i have 15x7 stock 99 taco rims.
idk why i didnt ask, what vehicle are your rims on?

I won't have my 285's for a couple weeks but I have the 05+ taco wheels with spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers. Here are a few pictures I have of my 4runner with this set up. If you want any other angles just let me know and I'll snap some more pictures tomorrow.

Update. For anyone wanting Spidertrax spacers, they will be shipping may 18-19th. These have been out of stock for over the past month. Spidertrax cannot make enough, and when they do make a run, they are all sold out before they can put them up on their own site!
We bought 30 sets just for us, which will ship may 18-19th. I ONLY HAVE 10 SETS LEFT, so if anyone else wants a set, I'd order in the next 1-2 days so you get a set. If you wait, it's going to be another 1-2 months until they can make more.

I know this is an old post but I am doing the same thing and want to know how it turned out. I have 285/75- 17's steel rims of an FJ Cruiser and am thinking that if I got the spider Traxx 1.25 then I would stop rubbing the UCA's. Did this work for you?

This may not be applicable to your year, make, and model but chances are it does. I ordered and installed a 3" lift and 1.5" wheel spacers so my 08 fj could take 285/70/17 tires on stock 07 Tacoma TRD Sport wheels. The result was perfect for backspacing clearance, but the lift is still a bit shy of keeping the tire from rubbing a protruding piece of inner fender, especially when turning in reverse. I'll likely go up an additional 3" later but the 1.5" wheel spacers were perfect for the purpose of getting good clearance from the upper A-arm. The tires don't stick way out past the fenders either. Do what you gotta do but price all thats included in replacing a wheel bearing (plus labor if not doing it yourself) first then think twice. I'd rather run a diff rim and/or tire then spacers. I would not even want to shorten the life span of my bearings by a 1,000 miles just having to replace one.

I understand your train of thought and agree to a point. First, to get what you want, we are all willing to make different levels of sacrifices. Secondly, you must consider the geometry as it was before versus as it will be after for each SPECIFIC application. In my case the hub is now actually close to 0 offset which will not cause any great stress on the bearings. Once one begins running in the negative offset, then they should consider setting funds aside for premature failures.

Bumping this thread..What size wheel spacers do I need for these rims and 315/75/16? Ive got 1.25'' now..Think that will be good enough or go with 1.5''?

Yes Haddix, I agree with 4Runner114. You should be fine with your 1.25" spacers and 315's....assuming you're talking about the later model front IFS and your rims have a stock positive offset (+10mm if I remember right). If they are not stock, then you'll have to break out the tape measure and figure it out. With my 1.5" spacers and 285's, my hand had 1.5 to 2 inches of room to flop back and forth between the tire and the upper A-arm. Also to tweak my previous comment...When I said negative offset being an issue for the bearings, I meant HUGE negative offset. Up to -15mm is not unusual and not an amount to consider detrimental to your bearings. I have, since my last post, removed my Tacoma TRD Sport rims and 1.5" spacers from my FJ and replaced them with MOTO Metal MO951's that have a -12mm offset. This is very close to what the stock rim and spacer combo produced. The 285's stick out just ever-so-slightly past the flares and give a broader, muscled stance but still somewhat understated look.
