I just got my front passenger window replaced on my '01 4Runner. It has the auto up and safety rolldown feature. But now everytime I use the auto up, it rolls back down everytime! There's nothing I can find that's restricting the window from rolling up all the way. I thought the mounting might be off or too high, but the guy double checked it and it looked good. The new window is a PPG window and I got it replaced at an independent glass shop. I asked the dealer about it, and they said they can reset some timing circuit for $170! I thought that might be BS, but is there really an electrical timing/sensitivity circuit that needs to be reset or re-calibrated??

 

Maybe the window is binding on the way up and the sensor kicks it back down?

 

does it go all the way up, how far?

I thought it was maybe the traction or friction but I don't see a slow down of the window as it goes up. And I even sprayed silicone lube to rid of any other friction but still the same problem. So I eliminated that issue.
And the window does go all the way up, but it seems like it's trying to go up more and as it hits the top of the frame it thinks it's being obstructed and the safety feature kicks in to back it back down. Is there a need to re-calibrate the motor to tell it where the top of the frame is so it knows when to stop my window?

 

weird, i dont have that feature on my 01... or ive never used it or known about it!

 

i would suspect binding in the window mechanism somewhere. does it go up in manual? my drivers window is similiar as it had come out of the rails, it still binds occasionally and then goes back down. it doesn't roll up straight and i can move it about 1" back and forth, like the wheels in the mechanism have worn out from the problem. ill fix it again when it breaks.

 

yeah, it goes up just fine in manual. and it doesn't seem like there's any binding at all when the window rolls up. I would expect to see a slow down or maybe a difference in motor noise if there was some resistance. but nothing seems out of the ordinary until it hits the top of the frame and kicks back down.

 

wow I have the SAME problem!! My car was broken into and this started happening since i replaced my passanger side window. when you roll it down all the way and try to roll it down again, it makes clicking noise, this does not happend with driver's side so i thought i was a bad relay....i dont know what the hell is wrong with my windows...

 

any updates on this issue? when i use auto up on my passanger window it goes all the way up, then automatically comes back down about 1/3 of the way.

i checked yesterday (stuck my freakin arm in the way of the window only to feel the pain of a pushing window motor!) and i dont even have this feature... so strange.

next someone will tell me its a good idea to stick your hand into the fan

 

you use your HEAD in the fan, HANDS in the doors, and ARMS in the windows...

did ya find anything out about resetting? it does sound like BS. taking the door skin off is easy. do that and operate the window to verify correct operation of the mechanism. its how i found mine.
